  • just flushing and finalizing character concepts for Tree of Jacob, 14 main good guys, so its slow but well.

  • Hi Marcus,
It encourages me to know that I can be an encouragement so far away from where I am.
From which region of Australia are you from?
I was in India with an Australian pastor from Tasmania
May the Lord bless you in this land of the sun
perhaps one day the Lord will lead me in your part of the world...

  • Hi Marcus, how's things? Thanks for the kind words about the Jesus Comic. Actually, I am just finishing the colours for the new colour version, coming soon!
Hey have you contacted the Bible Society yet about work? If you haven't, and you are keen, you really should, because I have mentioned you twice to them now, plus sent a couple of your drawings to them, and they are interested. Thought you should know, bro'.
  • Hey Marcus, glad you like my Christian Tshirt designs. As far as the no inking thing. I just try to draw as finished as possible (no putting little "x's" in for the inker. And then I just use the curve tool in photoshop to darken up the lines a little but not to 100% black. Then I just make the layer a multipy layer and paint underneath. The best style I can show you thats like this is Andy Kubert on his 1602 story. Do a google search for it you'll see what I mean bro :)
  • Thanks for the comment man! I'm looking foward to meeting up with other artists here. I have seen Final Fantasy. In fact I own it and have played the games from about FF7-FF10. I love the action. The japanese know how to do a good battle scene for sure.
  • Thanks for that, but for some weird reason I couldn't open either of the links. Bummer.
  • No worries, man. They'd be happy with hard copy, or a link to an online portfolio, or even attached files to an email, they are not fussy, as long as they see your stuff. When I first got a gig with them, I just attached my 5 best pieces at the time as pdf's to an email I sent them. It was definitely God who got me the job though, not anything I did. Love to see your 'Present Darkness' ideas; might show you my own. I've already posted one in my photo gallery.
  • Haha... Guess I missed the humour..
I don't really do manga style these days. My style incorporates some manga influences, but it can't be called manga as it has influences from western comics as well :)
  • Hey Marcus, I heard back from the NSW Bible Society, here's what they said: "If Marcus would like to send us a portfolio we can certainly keep him on our maybe list. Just occasionally we need more than one person working at a time and illustrators are quite difficult to come by. Just let him know that it is spasmodic work and we certainly wouldn't be promising him anything."
So definitely worth contacting them. Did you say you had already contacted the Victorian Bible Society? Might be worth trying them again too. Your stuff is really good, so I'm sure they'd use you if they can.
As for "This present Darkness", I reckon every christian comic artist and his dog has dreamed of that gig. I have wanted to do the Graphic Novel of that since I first read it when I was 14.
  • I'm not sure whether they need more artists, as I just freelance for them, I'm not an employee. You'd have to contact them with your portfolio. I will ask the person I liaise with if she knows whether they need more artists and see what she says. As for Mike Mcarthy, the name rings a bell, but I'm not sure which bell is ringing.
