August 28th was Jack Kirby’s birthday! In celebration, Hero Initiative held their "Wake Up and Draw" day event. I was asked to participate. So, I drew Nemish-Man smacking a slimy-looking Skrull! At least, I hope that it's a Skrull. Hero Initiative posted my illustration on E-Bay for auction...

I am looking at an undelivered box, sitting on a shelf next to our dining room table. It was supposed to be mailed out to my son in a foreign country but when we found out the cheapest delivery cost exceeded the box’s contents by many times, the project stalled. We’re a really busy family and time passed, and now months later I’m looking at this undelivered box, weighing the value of the contents, both literally and figuratively, and musing about is worth.
One thing is certain, as long as the box sits unopened, its value is zero.
Giving away something: words, time, effort gifts, is always a gamble. And the probability is pretty good that the ‘gift’ will make no lasting impact, its absence will not be noticed and its presence forgotten as life goes on. People are adaptable, and if you make no contribution, they will get along just fine. If you try to make a contribution, it will only bring a brief moment of aid or happiness to the recipient…or worse, it will be misunderstood. Giving is a gamble…however not giving is a certainty; as long as the contribution remains undelivered its value is certainly zero.
Consider this web site and CCAS, this site’s hosting organization. This site was built, and is now maintained totally on the sacrificial gifts of money and a huge amount of time and effort of its founders and current web-wizards. I stumbled upon it four years ago, a well maintained but quiet fellowship site for Christian Comic writers and artists, and said…respectfully and sincerely…OH MY GOD!!!!! Pinch me Jesus, is this for real?! I don’t know about the lives of the other 1500 other people who have signed up on this site, but I am surrounded by people who love and appreciate me…but do not get the power of Christian graphic arts. And every week I come to this site, I am grateful to God that with the click of a mouse I can tie into at least 1500 other folks that “get it.”
There are many ways we can express our appreciation, our enthusiasm, our anxiety and endurance through this site. “What shall I say to you, brothers and sisters? When we come together in this web space, everyone who has a poem, a word of instruction, a revelation or interpretation, a piece of art: share it for the strengthening of this body.”(1Cor14:26-27) “Let us consider how to spur each other on toward love and good deeds.”(Hebrews10:25).
We’re all pretty busy. The time we can spare for art is precious…and the payback for making it is pretty scanty. However, if every second time we visited this site we left a little something: a comment, a praise or prayer request, a piece of writing or art, maybe a small contribution to the site coffers to help with upkeep; it would help make this site a little warmer and brighter. It’s a gamble that any one contribution will even be noticed or appreciated by anyone human but the value of unexpressed good intentions is certain: its zero.
With the "Comics is Comics" editorial in AN ACT OF FAITH #9, I wrote about the "Creator-owned Comics (vs. Corporate-owned Comics)" panel with Kurt Busiek and Michael Allred from this past June's Special Edition: NYC comics convention.
I posted the editorial online. This posted version of the "Comics is Comics" editorial has been edited to exclude spoilers for those who haven't read AN ACT OF FAITH #9:

I received a new letter from Dave Sim where Dave commented on the editorial, Creator's Rights, and the "Creator-owned Comics (vs. Corporate-owned Comics)" panel. For full disclosure, I had asked Dave to be part of the panel.
I posted Dave Sim's letter online:

Greetings, all. My name is James Lynch, founder of Hero Universe Comics. I'm looking for a little help funding our newest project, a 60 page Christian-themed graphic novel called "AngelDemon." I'd really appreciate anybody taking a couple of minutes to check out the Kickstarter page, consider pledging if you like what you see and have the means, and help to spread the word.

I am often critical of secular television being shallow and ungodly. (Don't get me started on shows like TRUE BLOOD or THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.) I think that most television programming is preventing people from concerning themselves with the things of God. And I think television is something that some people use to fill the emptiness in their souls.
I don't watch a lot of television. What I do watch on a regular basis are things like Fox News, SID ROTH'S IT'S SUPERNATURAL, SUPERNATURAL (different show as the one previously mentioned), JOHN HAGEE TODAY, and IN TOUCH WITH CHARLES STANLEY. (I do miss things like NOT A FAN and DRIVE THRU HISTORY.)
Still, I do very much enjoy THE WALKING DEAD television series. Honestly, I don't think that THE WALKING DEAD is either this or that in regards to Christianity. There are some Christian characters on THE WALKING DEAD. There is violence, as well, but mostly to walking dead things. I could do without some of the salty language, though. From a Christian perspective, I don't think that THE WALKING DEAD is either good nor bad. I could be wrong, though.
A friend sent me a link to an article about THE WALKING DEAD from a Christian magazine website. Honestly, I don't think that THE WALKING DEAD has "a deeper message" to it. My understanding is that (co-creator) Robert Kirkman is an atheist.
Anyway, here's RELEVANT Magazine's ("God, life, and progressive culture") article, "The Deeper Message of 'The Walking Dead'"...

On the first mission, Professor Jack led the super-hero team, the Protectors. On the second mission, the Protectors went without Professor Jack. The second mission ended terribly. I just want to say that ClearVision Communications has resurfaced. I'm spear-heading this endeavor, and we already have the website up(www.clearvisionuniverse.com), as well as a new web comic, "The Adventures of Starchild and Saren". Its a series about "alien twins, human friends, where destinies begin!" Sent to Earth from the world known as Delania to learn the true value of peace. "Solar powered alien twin titans, Starchild and Saren, along with their human companions, Jerry O'Dell and Celia Grey, embark on their destiny. Battling evil, righting wrongs, and standing for truth! Will their mission succeed?... Adventure shall always be a part of their lives!" This updates each Friday, and can be accessed from the Clearvision website, or at www.Starchildandsaren.cfw.me
God has granted me the grace and strength to step out on faith, and I ask that you would pray for the success of this enterprise. It has long been my desire to reach people with the gospel thru the artistic gifts He's given. More covertly than overtly, utilizing ideals, principles, and values derived from scripture that have become M.I.A. in today's comics/movies/entertainment, the goal is to "illuminate hearts and minds....creatively!"
So please support this undertaking in prayer, and thank you.
I post some preview pages from AN ACT OF FAITH #9. Ish #9 should go on sale next Wednesday, September 24th through iVerse Media.

I have one! I would love to start producing a webcomic asap!
If no one bites... then I'll have to do it myself. I'm told the story is pretty solid but I don't have the best drawing skills. But I will end up doing it myself if I have to lol.
SO let me know if you're interested or know of anyone who might be.
God Bless!
