  • hi man thx for the invitation. the concepts of your characters like me very much keep going.
  • Hi Nate, First of all I want to say you are doing good. If these are newly updated images you've added I can see the gradual improvements in your work. As an artist you never start learning. For a true artist it is like a way of life, doing art, so I encourage you to draw and do some work on your art every day and you will become one of the best artist in the world in the future. As for the softwares I use - I mostly use Adobe photoshop to do my colorings. Some times I'll use Adobe Illustrator as well to do some prep work to bring into photoshop (for example, doing logos). I am currently learning Corel Painter, which I feel is maybe a better program for coloring then Photoshop, maybe. It's the closest thing to getting that painterly look in a program. As I suggest to some other CCAS members, they can purchase the program at a wonderful website called ...www.lynda.com. It is a great website to get learning CD's on how to use the programs I mentioned. Keep up the good work Nate, and I look forward to sending you more comments on art related stuff. GOD Bless you.

  • Keep up the good work Nate.

  • Oh I've been told that folks can't find my website so if your the same go to google and then put in cartoonist@toons4u.net because Dex created so you might have to go to their site if you have a trouble. I'm sure you'll find it then. I've been told that at one point this website address would take some to a prono site but my lawyer got this fixed.
  • Hi. I just wanted to tell you that at the age of 8 I created my first ever stickman superman and i loved it. Since then I've been cranking out one comic strip one after another. I'm now 50 and I'm still at it. Just check out my site at cartoonist@toons4u.net. For now I've been able to turn my passion into a bonified small business that will take off any day now. Oh, and something that many don't know that i suffer from Manic Depression and Schizodpheria so when people just laugh at what I do well I feel I'm just smiling at them and thinking they can think what they want but I know I'm going get to the top of the heap. And even if I don't its been a great ride I'm on!
  • Hey Nate!! Well to answer your questions, I haven't quite created a business. I am a flooring contractor by trade. I am in the process right now of creating a book for the first time. Professionally that is. I felt that I wasted alot of years not having confidence in my art and my abilities, till this past year or so. I started doing some album art for a friends band and it was totally a hit! The positive comments that I got from strangers that bought their album were a huge inspiration and a wake up call as well. It showed me that I could create artwork that people really enjoyed and it sprang from there! I was getting a print done of the album art at a print shop and the guy that was helping me asked about it and stated that he was a writer that needed an artist and I explained to him that I was an artist in need of a writer! Lol. So we hooked up and I found that his stories were awesome! His stuff is REALLY good. So we just jumped right in! We are just about done and will be submitting our book to many companies. Now all we have to do is wait. But I think it all starts with knowledge in your craft. Anatomy is monumental. Critical. Perspective is critical. Moreover I think a great deal of experience in studying the art of comics is huge. I am not saying just studying a certain artists style. But what makes his style work? What about the camera angles he chose? What about the dynamics of his work. I have studied the art of comics all my life. What works, what doesn't. To me I still have a loooonnngg way to go before I can consider myself anywhere near the pro's, but I don't let that stop me. Because in the end its all about doing what you LOVE to do. That passion thats in it, that moment where you finish a piece and look at it and you get that intense feeling of accomplishment and joy. Thats what I get out of it. I don't care if a certain person can't stand my style, or thinks that I need a lot of work in a certain area. Sheesh, I will be the first to tell you! Lol. But what it comes down to is love. And using your talents to glorify God, in the way you do it. But this first book is what it is: A FIRST book. There will be more and the more I do the better they will get. Thats another thing that keeps me going. I may not like a certain page, and believe me, there are six so far, but I know I will have hundreds in the future that will make up for those. Lol. Anyway, I hope to have shed a little light on the subject for you. Hit me up sometime if you ever have more questions! I would love to do my best to answer them for you. Have a great night bud. I will talk to you soon.

  • Hi Nate!! How are ya bud? Well to answer a few of your questions, I have been drawing since I was able to hold a pencil, so I guess I'd have to say 28 years? A long time, I am still nowhere near where I'd like to be but I keep banging away at it! I grew up collecting comics and drawing them regularly, trying to copy some of my favorites, like our faves Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee. Until my own style started to develop, and still is. VD is about a guy that doesn't know his past really well and keeps having these recurring nightmares about getting killed. What he doesn't know is he really is getting killed but on a seperate earth. An "Earth Ripple". The guys that are looking for him are acing every one of him on each ripple until they find the real deal. They are after these gloves, or "Guantlets". They grant the wearer, well thats a secret for now. But upon finding him they ask for the gloves but VD doesn't know anything about them. So they ace his wife, who in her last breaths reveals that she wasn't only his wife but his guardian, put into the care of VD by an agency he used to work for. She begins to tell him who he really is, and then passes. The bad guys kidnap his daughter and take her to some other ripple. All of his memories are brought back by a hidden transmission deep in his subconscious. He finds his guantlets and is really upset now and sets off to get his daughter back! Thats the jist of it. It has been a fun project, we are now just about ready for print. We finally got all of the copyright info taken care of and now its time to find us a publisher! Does it sound interesting? Anyway, I looked through your work and you are coming along just fine, kid. Keep in mind, practice, practice, practice. And always try to finish a piece from beginning to end. Even if you aren't liking the current outcome. It will teach you how to stay committed regardless of outcome. Otherwise you will have piles and piles of unfinished work. Not many people like unfinished work. It shows lack of focus and commitment. Believe me, Nate, I had nothing BUT unfinished work just up until maybe two years ago! Lol...Anyway, you are on your way, kid. Just stay the course and you will be doing this stuff for a living in no time! And study study study. Anatomy and perspective!! Its a drag but it will take your art to the next level! I like to say it will take it from bunk to funk! Lol...keep me posted on your new stuff! I look forward to seeing it!!
  • Hi,Nate.God bless.I just joined recently and saw your profile and your work and I agree with everything your friends say.You certainly had a great future as an artist and I'd like to make a recommendation,if you don't mind.
There're so many good books on drawing that you can pick up and they will all add to your knowledge as you go along but the best books are the ones that provide as much coverage as possible on the subject.I highly recommend one book{if you don't have it already} which absolutely mandatory for anyone who wants to draw. It's callede "Drawing the Head and Figure" by Jack Hamm. The book is crammed with wall-to-wall information for drawing dozens of subjects pertaining to the human figure.I hope you get a chance to acquire it since ti's still available.God bless and all the best!!
  • Hey Nate, Just dropping a line to say Hi. Hey I noticed that we have a lot of artist in common like Lienil yu and Jim lee. Go check out Eric canete. He did Iron Man: Enter the mandarin. He is a very good arist.
  • Hi there Nate. I must say, your background wallpaper looks AWESOME. And I love how you're so art-driven. Hm, I can tell your artwork is improving, keep up the great work Nate. I advise you to get yourself some books on human anatomy, it'll help set everything straight for you since the human body is sometimes improvised or exaggerated in comic books therefore it confuses you at times. In addition, you should look into giving your characters dynamic poses from different angles, this is when perspective comes into play. But I know you're working your way towards that level ^_^ God Bless you and your work. Trust me, I'm looking forward to see your work.

    Peace,
    Amy.T
