Arcana Magazine In November Previews

What a blessing this is! At the start of the year myself and a friend started Extra Sequential, a free on-line mag all about comics. After 3 issues we were picked up by Arcana Comics from Canada. For the last few months we've been working on the transition of ES to print, and it's now arrived! Well, sort of. Arcana magazine is a full colour quarterly and is featured in November's Previews catalogue, for January shipping products. Go to Page 184 and you'll see it. It's only $3.50US for a full colour 96 page mag. We have interviews with David Mack, Josh Medors, Chip Mosher (marketing guy from BOOM! Studios), Marv Wolfman, Edmund Shern and Star Wars: Invasion writer Tom Taylor. There's also a look at The Death of Superman, an article on music and comics, and so much more. Plus, it looks pretty good! Be aware that there is the occasional use of mild profanity in some interviews (!), and it is tailored for mature comic readers as well as newbies to the wonders of sequential art. Check out our blog here and you can order it from Previews now.

Extra Sequential #3

This has been out since late June, but I forgot to post it here! This is our last issue, as we've been picked up by a Canadian publisher and are currently working on the first print edition, for release in January. Thank you Lord! Issue 3 has an interview with the man behind Gestalt Publishing, as well as with Brian Cronin from comicbookresources.com about his new book and with Christian novelist Robin Parrish regarding his new sci-fi novel, Offworld. There's also heaps of great art and reviews. Check it out here:http://issuu.com/extrasequential/docs/extrasequential3His,Kris

Extra Sequential #2 Out Now

The second issue of my free on-line comics mag, Extra Sequential is now out. It's 88 pages long and has interviews, reviews and features, plus gorgeous full colour art. Read all about Flash Gordon, Joe Jusko, Hotwire, Kid Beowulf, Dawn of the Dread Force, Harker and so much more. Be warned though, as this ish is for mature readers, as it features some minor profanity and stuff-nothing too bad, just a warning! Hope you enjoy it! Cheers, Kris

Comic Book Terminology

Part of my new free on-line mag, Extra Sequential is a regular feature called The Terminal. The aim of this feature is to simplify some common comic book terms. Here's the feature from our first issue. Enjoy! The TerminalThe world of comic books, like any world with a devoted fan base, can appear somewhat confusing to the outsider. The Terminal is a regular feature that will define the common terms used in comic circles. In other words, this is the geek speak you need to know.LCS – Local Comic Shop. A place of wonder and enchantment. And discount bins. To find an LCS near you check out “Books” in your local business directory, or visit www.comicshoplocator.comJumping On Point – A story structured especially for new readers to that particular series, where a knowledge of previous issues is not necessary. The Big Two – Marvel and DC Comics, the two largest English language comic companies on the planet.TPB – Trade Paper Back. (Also known as TP or Trade) A soft, or hard, cover collection of a previously published series, or thematically linked issues. A TPB may collect an entire series if it’s only a few issues, or a few consecutive issues of a larger ongoing series. They sometimes contain extras, such as an introduction, cover gallery, sketchbook, or writer/artist commentary.OGN – Original Graphic Novel. A collected edition, like a TPB, but of new material, whereas a TPB is a collected repackaging of previously published material. The term “graphic novel” is rarely used by comics fans and is often used by misunderstanding mainstream press. The average comic issue contains at least 22 pages of story, and 22 pages is certainly not a “novel.”
