Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
I am a talented networker and public speaker, but still progressing in my passions as a writer, and cartoonist. Ultimately, a lover of Marvel Superheroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, TMNT, and graphic novels and comic books in general who wants to change the world through individuals by calling them up into their God-given identities, and teaching them how to work together in unity as individuals, rather than conformity to Christianese clones.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
My priorities in life are: Freedom, independence, creativity, and fun. Now, how's that's all achieved can come down to deeper things such as wisdom, intelligence, and compassion, but...that's a whole 'nother story. XD
Either way, hey. My legitimate goals: I want to make art to make art. And I mean that metaphorically. Are you confused yet? ;)
We're all masterpieces, breathtaking expressions of the master artist. Judging art is stupid. It stands on it's own, as the expression of the individual. The thing is, it wont all be brought to completion until we're all up in heaven. In the meantime, though...creation reflects it's creator. And we should let the artist continue to create us...as well as allow him to work through us as his vessels to bring His other art pieces to completion.
It's working together in our individuality that creates the reality of unity that changes the world. It's in our differing strengths, weaknesses, and even preferences that we create the body of Christ. We are all different parts from different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, but beautiful art pieces communicating God's glory. It's when we work together, rather than judge one another to conform to each other, that we become what God has made us to be, and bring the masterpiece to completion.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
Entrepreneur
An organization that creates art to create art. And I mean that metaphorically. Are you confused yet? XD

Nah you're good... if you haven't noticed i use a lot of words sometimes... so for me to type all my ideas at once would take pages and pages and pages... possibly books...it's probably easier to consume in smaller doses.
I totally agree with you... I want to use fantasy to change the reality we live in... it's been said that he who writes the stories shapes the culture... and think about it, it's true. There is a part in the gospels where it says, tie up the strongman and then you can plunder his house... or a line in mary poppins that says a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down... or just the fact that jesus said very few things to the masses outside the context of story. He was a masterful storyteller. And when the Holy Spirit hops on those stories and honors them they can cut to the heart.
I think that if I can be used for some kind of story... a naruto, or a dragonball z, or a harry potter... or if i can be used to come up with a group of characters that exist in some kind of fictional world... like x-men or ninja turtles... and if their story is used to teach, to train, to illuminate God's love and life and grace and how it fills our lives... I think a lasting, weighty work like that could greatly impact the world and reach many places that many christians just can't go.
When you make a comic book, or a book, or a movie, or a cd, it has a way of slipping into the lives of the masses and planting seeds and stirring things up... it's a covert method of ministry... and is highly effective if done well.
But all this is beyond me at the moment, i'm still trying to get anatomy down, and understand perspective, and layout, and composition, and what tools to use, and what the best methods are for me to use them effectively... and creating models and keeping my drawings and characters on model... etc. haha
Yeah me too!! :D The way God showed up in my life was very powerful, I think because I was so lost, because I was very much heading the wrong way, zealously going the wrong way, The way he chose to approach me was very dynamic ... again everyone's story is different, the context of their story in the context of his Big story and how it ties in with everyone one else all the same time is different... he approaches everyone individually, because no two are the same, like snowflakes, so for others he may not have needed to show up and shatter their world in super saiyan form... but that's what he did for me. For me it was... and is... truly humbling and magical... but it doesn't make anyone else's experience any less magical... it's just different. I'm grateful for the appearance of Christ and the grace of God on all our lives!! :D
I think being able to go to school like this, and have be close to your home is awesome!! It makes so much more sense to go to ...a friend close by, then a brother far away... or as it says in proverbs 27:10 "Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you-- better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away." it might seem like a stretch to use that logic, but so many times we have everything we need right in our back yard and yet we take it for granted , "a prophet has no honor in his hometown" and so we needlessly travel the world looking for things... only to eventually come back home in the end.
They don't have a school like this close to my home in North Carolina... this is the only comic book school in the states... so it being so close to you is pretty special i think... especially since you have an interest in sequential story telling.
But everyone is where they are for a reason. Everyone has their own story in the context of this much larger story of God. I think if i had known about this school when i was much younger, I may have came, and I may have missed the treasures underneath the trials... i takes a certain amount of maturity to see the diamonds in the rough, and it takes a great deal of patience to pan for gold... when it was time I received the call to journey and stepped into the adventure... but even still, I have to remind myself what it's all about, and I have to make sure I don't miss out on all that has been laid right at my feet.
That said, it's a very good school... it suits me. It's laid back and kind of like a high school but the caliber of the teachers is off the charts. It's kind of like having super heroes or kung fu masters walking among normal men and women... you wouldn't know of their special abilities just by looking at them, but when they give demos and show their pages of work you know you have stumbled into something great.
Oh, awesome... You should definitely put your art up!! :D Art is a journey, it's a process, it changes... I used to only want to show my newest and (best) art, but the truth is, you never really quite arrive, and you are always struggling and working to get better, and most pieces are better than the last, and most artists don't really like any of their work. It's never good enough, and they are never quite satisfied, which is also kind of the process... because if you had it exactly how you wanted, and if there was no searching involved, if there was no struggle and no growth, you'd probably just get bored with it. It's kind of the same with God i think... if we were perfect we wouldn't need his help, if we had everything we wanted all the time, we may not even look to him at all. "When perfection comes, the imperfect disappears." That's what the bible says. We won't find perfection in this life... and there is no perfection outside of Jesus.
Anyway, yeah, I'm just a student... I've been drawing for a long time, off and on, and I really only got super serious about it in the last couple of years or so, so a lot of it is relearning, reawakening and disciplining myself... At least it started out that way. But i couldn't really get to where I want to be by myself... so I go to school now. I'm a first year student at the Kubert school. What I'm drawing now is a lot different from what is up on this site... but i still haven't yet arrived... sometimes i feel frustrated with my lack of ability, I can see it in my mind, but my hand can't quite make it happen... not yet. But it's a process, and it takes a lot of practice, and a lot of patience... and I am constantly humbled and reminded that I can't do this without God, without Jesus... and so everyday I look to him and ask him to help me get better.
Think of your art like mile markers... you should upload it so that everyone can see your progress, and so that you will have reminders of where you've been and where you want to be.
You have a friend that lives in Fayetteville North Carolina?? Wow. That's pretty cool... what do they do?
Hey, thank you... :D I'm still learning, but I think it's getting better!
