  • Yes, there's an unwritten rule that it's socially acceptable to tell ethnic, racial, blonde etc. jokes if one is a member of the "in-group" being made fun of. For example, my son was adopted from India. On 9/11 a few days ago he was showing people a silly Internet meme that reads "7/11: Never forget" & pictures a somber-faced Indian-looking guy running a convenience store. My son, & everyone else in the room, thought it was hilarious, esp. because HE, the Indian, was displaying it. I told him only he could get away with that. (He was in a room full of white people at the time.)

  • This is precious. I've been to many African-American church services and am always impressed with the call-and-response, engagement and feedback found there. The preacher seldom has to worry that he/she doesn't know what the congregation thinks, feels. And if folks are silent and still...well...that's NOT a good sign. Means he (or she) aint gettin' thru...and that aint good, naw.

  • You know Steve the sad thing about it if these guys were white some people might be offended. But since there is an unwritten rule that it's alright for black people to make fun of black people(and even   make fun of white people, and everyone thinks it's alright to make fun of asian people), this pass the mark and is O'tay.

  • At the risk of coming off like a jerk, I watched a bit of this and a strange thought popped into my head: What if the people in this vid were white? ...What would be the reaction if the exact same video was posted but if everyone in it was white? ...I was in a little back and forth with Scott Kurtz over his newest PvP strip about one character wanting to be punished over some innocent comments he made that could be taken as demeaning to another character who is gay. ...My point to Scott was that we are ALL too sensitive in this culture. In fact, we are immature, and so being we seem to feel to emote our outrage at any and every potential slight uttered or committed either intentional or unintentional. ...So here I see this vid having fun with aspects within the black church, and I wonder if it would be funny if all were white? Or Asian? Or whatever. ...I think it would be. It's funny here, so I would think I'd be funny there. Yes? (Plus, I tend to enjoy racial humor, when it is respectful and non-malicious, or course. I think it is healthy to be able to laugh at ourselves. Much more healthy that crying and whining at every turn.) ...Thoughts?
  • So wrong, but so so funny.
