It's been awhile since i've been on my CCAS page. I promised myself i wouldn't let it slip but between College and trying to write and draw and occasionally playing video games on the week ends and dealing with kids and house work, its crazy. Most of my time is taken up by my school work. I've even stopped cleaning house, which hasn't worked out as well as i had hoped. Ew. I'm just posting to see whats up and to assure all my peeps that i'm not dead yet. LOL Right now i'm trying to write a comic book sequel to the Lovecraft-based survival horror game Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. I'll check back in occasionally. Much Love.

This is a transcript I made for a friend, but the message has impacted my relationship with God deeply.Beloved in Grace,SoubaYou can also watch it on youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZxn5NdSl10Hillsong Church Conference 07 Excerpt Transcript:Pastor Joseph Prince: But the moment you see Jesus on the cross being punished for your sins, all is peaceful inside. Somebody has paid for your sins. AmenThe reason there is now no condemnation to us who are in Christ, is not because God has gone soft on sin. It is precisely because God is Holy that there is no condemnation. What do you mean Pastor Prince? Because 2,000 years ago at the cross God punished and poured out His wrath and judgment and punishment on Jesus Christ for our sins!He was bearing your sins, my sins He had no sins of His own!He did no sin, in Him is no sin, He was punished for our sins, and there is a law in the courts called the law of double jeopardy the same crime cannot be tried twice. God cannot punish our sins in the body of Christ and then punish it in our lives. Hallelujah!Because God is Holy He cannot punish you, oh you’re not hearing me because God is Holy He will not and “cannot” punish you! And He designed it that way.God is not merciful in making you righteous God is righteous in making you righteous. His mercy sent His son, His love sent His son, but it is His righteousness that justifies you.At the cross Jesus cried “My God, My God why have you forsaken me?”You know that was the first time Jesus cried to His father “My God.” If you study the Gospels you’ll find He always called his father as father. That was the first time at the cross openly so that all of us will know that He became sin and lost that relationship on our behalf so that you and I can cry to God “My father, my father, Abba, Abba, my father! Halleluiah! He cried “Why have you forsaken me” out loud! So we would all know he was forsaken at the cross so that we can cry “father you will never leave me or forsake me” and sometime you feel like crying “father, why have you so blessed me.” It’s all paid for folks, 2,000 years ago. Halleluiah, Halleluiah.I feel like His love is just falling like rain in this place. People are becoming whole spirit, soul, and body, Halleluiah. There is therefore no condemnation, to those who are in Christ.God made Jesus on the cross to become sin, He who knew no sin became sin with your sins, so that you who know no righteous will become righteous, in Christ. But Pastor Prince how can you say that I am righteous, having done no right thing in my life, how can I become righteous apart from my performance, Pastor Prince?Well, you have to answer me first. How come Jesus became sin at the cross, apart from his performance? It does not take the Holy Spirit to understand law. Law says do good get good, do bad, get bad, and we still hear that kind of preaching today. Karma… My Name is Earl. No, that’s not Christianity, come one now. Christianity is we receive good that we don’t deserve, because Jesus received all the bad he did not deserve! And that takes the Holy Spirit to understand the Holy Spirit has not come to teach you the law, He has come to unveil grace. And our Lord Jesus said “The Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head,” but finally at the cross the Bible says he cried “It is finished!” What is finished? All the price, all that we need to justify us and to lead a victorious life. It’s all finished it’s all paid for, at the cross. And you know what He did? Listen and you know what he did right after that? The Bible says He bowed His head, and gave up the Spirit. That word Bowed is the same Greek word, that the son has nowhere to lay His head. Finally rested His head in loving you in redeeming you in blessing you in healing you. This is the grace of God, His grace is greater than all our sins. How many of you hear it said, you know Pastor Prince you cannot preach too much on grace it’ll cause license to sin in the church. Number one, people are sinning without license. The Bible says “the strength of sin is the law,” have you read that? “The strength of sin is the law” who do you think is the one that is, that is deceiving us putting a constancy around grace? Is the devil cause he knows the law is his weapon to knock you. Amen? The Bible says, and I’ll close with this. In 1 John 4:17 “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment.” How many want to have boldness in the day of judgment? Amen “That we may have boldness in the day of judgment” because as He is presence tense at the Father’s right hand crowned with glory and honor As He is so are we in this world! That’s how we have boldness in the day of judgment. Today God is not judging you, looking at you. God is assessing you judging you, looking at the perfect man as His right hand!In ancient Israel, everything rises and falls based on the High Priest. If the High Priest is good God receives the whole nation, if the High Priest is bad God rejects the whole nation! Folks I want you to know Jesus Christ lives as your high priest after the power of an endless life! Halleluiah! As He is so are we in this world! Stop asking the question “Am I accepted before God?” Ask instead “is Christ accepted before the Father?” Because as He is so are you in this world. The devil wants you to look at yourself he wants to turn your around and say look at this fault, look at this sin look at this, look at all your faults. Church, point the devil to Jesus and say “devil that’s who I am” As He is, and every which way you turn Jesus you see perfection, every which way you turn Jesus you see brilliance every which way you turn Jesus you see, you see glory. As He is, so are we in this world.

What's supposed to be my studio is over crowded with clothes, a bed, and all the wrong paperwork! I don't even have a desk! I can barely work up thumbs and the place's too small to even hang up refrences (I have three bins worth of character, textbook, and photorefrence that arean't getting used so I can't get started on anything)! Anyone know of any state that isn't hit too hard for the economy so I can move into a bigger apartment or even a condo?

Things at the barlow household are on the usual family rollercoaster . I'm off from classes this quarter so i'm trying to tackle 3 different projects. penciling Joe Endres Collosians book (issue2). Which is interesting because i'm following after someone elses' art style. Keon Transitt is a talented penciler with a cleaner style than mine so i'm sure the inker will get irritated inking my scribbles. Plus there is the personal agenda to not be a weak link on a team effort. No penciller wants to be the guy that lets down the reader, but it's also my first crack at sci-fi. I almost turned down Joe's offer. Glad i did'nt .we'll see.Next is a book called "MR.LOVE" , a out of work cupid who keeps screwing things up. Which is close to completion. After those projects i'll be focusing on the FRANK GUNN book.10 pages of it are done ,but i'm thinking 48 pages would be a good intro story. hope my inker can keep up.I'll post up artwork along the way.But the fun stops in january when i go back to school and the artdesk sits there lifeless, waiting for the next wave.

Well, it's still a very pressing moment, but nothing to do with my mental state or living conditions at the moment! I've been so swamped with ideas for concept art that I don't know if I should invest my times to hone in a new talent for doing so, or if I should try to repress it as much as possible, and keep writing...Obviously, I don't have time for both, but I can't get anything done at the moment because I can't get my schedule organized w/o this crucial decision! So I guess I've finally blogged something that no one can absolutely help me with...wasn't that a relief?

Republished from grailquestbooks.com“The English landscape and knights on horseback dressed in their heraldric colours were one of the first things I remember loving as a child,” recounts Josh. “And when I realised I could write stories of my own, a ‘knight story’ was at the top of the list.”Markus is an English knight hiding from God and his past. The noble Hospitaller, Sir Charle, and the woman of Markus’s heart, Lady Máirín, try to slow Markus’s downward spiral to despair. A letter left by a slain mentor acts as the calling that Markus must return to the Land of Christ, and his failures. There he will determine whether God means to set his conscience free from the weight of his burdens and restore him, or if he must sacrifice himself to attain his absolution.Music was another major force behind figuring out the central plot of Stitched Crosses. “I was channel surfing one evening and I happened upon a performance by a group called Celtic Woman. It was just in time to hear one of the women sing a song called ‘The Soft Goodbye’–it is probably one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, and it struck me immediately as the perfect foundation for the story. My creativity is often triggered by music. Casting Crowns, Bebo Norman, Jim Byrnes, selections from Creed’s Weathered, and other songs also helped me to naturally figure out the main character’s why’s and wheretofor’s.”As with most of Grail Quest Books’ comic projects, Josh assembled the art team of Paul Cox (pencils), Jake Nealis (inks), and Amanda Nix (colours) for Stitched Crosses by selectively mining for talent in various online art communities. “There are so many great artists out there like Paul, Jake and Amanda, and the team working on my wife’s Shadow of the Stars comic series–they all deserve to be seen. Even if we could contract [any artist in the industry]–and there are a handful we hope to work with–we are thrilled to help aspiring artists working to get a foothold. Afterall, it is these artists who are helping us to achieve our initial publishing goals, and words cannot describe our gratitude. We are all together in this.”Despite being set in the waning days of the 12th Century, the challenges faced by the characters of faith in doubt, and a world in turmoil, are as relevant today as any other. As Christendom makes a push to retake Outremer from Saladin’s Muslim forces, historical events and exciting period action serve as the canvas to this story of one knight wrestling with his spirit. Stitched Crosses is a four-part story scheduled to debut in October.Pages from this upcoming title can be viewed at our Facebook page.Read more…
First, the last book is by far the best and almost renders the others unnecessary. The first was okey, especially if you were a child between the ages of say 8 and 11 ... exceptible, within limmit, that is. But, let's face it : she could have used an Advanced D&D Monster Manual as a reference source. In fact, why didn't she just role die all through the book, to see how it should go? Her ideas are all modern, semi-popular ( but dated re: House Elves ) not baced on true legend or mythology, for the most part. I mean, hippogryphs, please! They are nothing but a literary invention. Many of her ideas about how people really viewed witches during the middle ages ( and later ) is not realistic. More on that, later. as for her world views, there is a reason Tolkien deplored the Anglican Church : they were watered down ages ago. She does seem to show some of the cultural reflections of Anglican enfluence, so I can't that she is down right anti christian, but...she seems to believe that the good ( who don't exit - just the not to evil ) automaticly go to ????????? a better place - sick.& even the sacrificial love of Jesus couldn't save my physical life. Also, her message to the world ( not a new one ) is : no, your not a freak or a geek, but, good gravey - ADD, Autism, Asperger's syndrom, By Polar, Schizophrenic ? By Gosh by Golly, Goodness, No, it can't be ! let's not have real conditions. In the oldendays, you might have been a changeling, later it was aliens and mustants ...and she has joined the "you are actually endowed with magical powers ...sick. So, now some poor kid is there pining to get into her "real" world, intead of dealing with the real world. Too many people just go crazy in denile of disablities, if they aren't obvious and physical.

Hey all,I have another awesome review of JK to share, this one is on the comicbookjesus website, and is very well done. :-D Check it out: http://comicbookjesus.wordpress.com/2008/08/31/jackket-knightmare-reviewinterview/As for JK 2 it's coming along nicely and will be longer than part 1 that's for sure, it will also introduce the new villain, Tom's love interest, and have a sweet cliff hanger! :-D The cover should be unveiled here soon. Now there's a new project that will eventually come from Velvet Nightmare Studios, and is un-named at the moment. I'm writing the script for it so I probably won't be the artist this time as I work on JK 2-5 so for now it's an open comic. It's an exciting sci-fi adventure with a character named, David Rhyder who is a... well.. I'll post a picture of him here soon and you'll probably figure it out. ;-) Stay tuned for more information.Beloved in Grace,SoubaRead more…

PC Hamerlinck and Don Ensign (right) at the 2008 San Diego Comic ConCCAS:Don Ensign is the reserch editor and designer for the 2008 Guide to Christian Comics. Don, how did you come up with the idea of the Guide to Christian Comics?Don Ensign: CCAS was founded back in 1984 with the idea of looking at comics from a Christian perspective. We started out with a newsletter called Valiant that lasted for about two and one half years and eventually went out free to around 200 people. In 1985 we began the amateur press association Alpha-Omega (which is still being published —over 140 issues and counting) that gave a creative voice to those fans of comics who are Christians. The mid-1990s saw a surge of new Christian comics coming on the market and Nate Butler published his Christian Comics and Games Magazine that for a time gave an official voice to the movement. After this from 1996-1998 CCAS again published a newsletter called New Creation that addressed many issues facing the movement. The Christian Comics movement has sustained tremendous growth over the past 10 years since the last issue of New Creation. Nate Butler again has done a great job of reporting many developments in the movement especially internationally on his Rox35/Comix35 web sites. In 2004 I was struck by the fact that there wasn’t a print resource dedicated to exploring the growth of Christian Comics. Henus the first Guide was published that year. CCAS:How often does the Guide come out?Don: It has been published annually since 2004. We are in our fifth year now. It has been available at Christian comics tables at various conventions and by mail order. CCAS:What exactly is does the Guide cover?Don: The Guide has a section listing print comics that have come out during the year with size, content info, pricing and so forth. It also has a section on the publishers of these comics so you can find out where to buy them. CCAS:Does the Guide cover the Web? Don: Yes, we list the sites where Christian web comics can be read as well as Christian Comics publisher’s web sites. If you want comics or single panel cartoons for your church publications you can find them there. This year we have an article that surveys the different kinds of Christian comics on the web. Everything from Megazeen to Christian manga. CCAS:Does the Guide contains news of the Christian comics movement?Don: Yes, we have a section called Milestones where we have collected information from various sources relating to Christian comics. Everything from awards being won by Christians graphic novels, Christian Comics Competitions, translations of Christian comics in other languages, events and so forth. CCAS: So I could get a lot of this information from other sources? Don: Yes, if you want to spend the hours researching this material yourself you could do that. The Guide does that work for you. CCAS:What are some of the other features in the Guide?Don: We reproduce many samples of art from various Christian Comics. We include an article on New Creation Now and a complete chapter of the upcoming Ragged Capes comic (artwork by Bill Maus). We have lists of Christians who are in the comics industry both producing Christian and secular comics. They can use our prayers. CCAS: So most of the Guide is a series of lists.Don: In previous editions that was true. This time around we decided to expand the Guide and include a in-depth reviews of the best of the current crop of Christian comics. We have included over 30 reviews written by Steve MacDonald and myself that help the reader to determine what books and graphic novels they would like to read. CCAS:Who puts out the Guide?Don: Ha! As if you didn’t known. Of course the 2008 Guide to Christian Comics is co-published by the Christian Comic Arts Society and New Creation Now. CCAS:Thanks for the interview. So how can one get a copy of the 2008 Guide to Christian Comics?Don: Hit on the following link for a Paypal shopping cart entry for the Guide. NewCreationNowEven "Superman" is reading the Guide to Christian Comics!Read more…

Powered by GodAhwahnee resident finishes work on Christian graphic novelBy Elizabeth Gabriel(Updated: Friday, August 01, 2008, 6:13 PM) email this storycloseInformation you provide is used exclusively to let the recipient know who forwarded the article. The article is protected by copyright and should not be printed or distributed for anything except personal use.Howard Kent of Ahwahnee has written a graphic novel with a Christian theme.Lakewood looks like a nice enough place to live. A dog cavorts on a lawn, balloons float up from the Dayspring Church carnival and two people greet a stranger and invite him to join the fun.But despite the bright colors and sunny skies, there is something sinister happening in the idyllic town.In "The Overcomers," a graphic novel by writer Howard Kent of Ahwahnee and artist Christina Cheek of the Ozarks, four twentysomethings become the Christian soldiers battling the the forces of evil in the guise of a group called Americans for Religious Freedom (ARF)."The story is all about overcoming life's hardships," Kent said. Each of the "good" characters has a strength and a corresponding flaw. Steve has wisdom but a sharp tongue, Marlene has love but little discretion, Marc has great strength but a temper and Eve has spiritual discernment but reluctance to use it.Then there is Doug of ARF, Eve's ex. He is demon-possessed and wants to possess Eve again -- not for himself but for his masters.Graphic novels are not comic books. And "The Overcomers" is certainly not a comic. Book 1 comes out in September, published by Living Word Publications of Michigan. Kent said it will have a full-color cover with black and white interior pages. That helps keep the cost down to $6.99, but it may be available in a full-color version for a higher price. For a preview, go to www.livingwordpublications.info.The drawings are in a heroic style typical of the genre. The men are muscular, the women are beautiful and Doug, the bad guy, wears a dark overcoat and fedora that hides most of his features.Kent said the story, which he has been working on and revising since 1988, is a jumping-off place for discussion and is aimed at people in the 13+ age group. The dilemmas the characters face are bigger than any the typical teen will ever confront."The characters all have pasts they have to deal with," Kent said, "just like us. I want readers to think about choices. I want to give people ideas, tools to use."Kent, 38, is concierge at the Apple Tree Inn. He also is ordained, with a specialty in family ministry. He said he is a big sci-fi fan and loved comics as a kid."This ('The Overcomers') is sort of a combination of "Touched by an Angel," "The X Files" and superheroes," Kent said. But the heroes of Lakewood get their power from God.Each of the four has the same dream one night.God speaks to them, saying "My child, I have found you to be trustworthy and true. You and others have been made worthy of being Overcomers. My missions for you will come as walks of faith. ... Be bold, be strong and be courageous. Have no fear and do not compromise, for the weapons of your warfare are mighty. You are a warrior of light and a soldier of the cross. ... I am with you always."The four consult with their pastor, who advises them to pray over their direction.Kent said while the story is told through a Christian paradigm, it is not preachy."It doesn't force God or the Bible on people," he said. "It urges you to live your life the best you can."Kent said in the real world, heroism isn't all about physically overcoming a demon-possessed bad guy. Heroism can be walking up to someone you see crying in the supermarket and offering comfort or a kind word."That's God tapping you on the shoulder," he said. The characters all get their strengths through faith, Kent said, and that's where he believes his strength comes from."You're stronger when you ask for help," he said."I have always been a defender. I always prayed to be big and strong. I said, 'God, here I am, use me.'"And that seems to be the central message of "The Overcomers." The heroes are good on their own, but when they give themselves over, they become great.Read more…
