New Year's Goals! (hold me to this, y'all)

I've been working on setting my goals for the year, and I realized that if a comic is 24 pages, and I completed 2 pages a month, or 6 pages a quarter, I'd have Issue One finished by the end of the year. I know, duh, right? ;) But part of setting goals is setting out everything you want to do and seeing where it fits in a schedule for the year. Or at least it should be. Actually, I think that two of the pages are the inside cover, so I really just need 22 pages of story. I had been working on scripting it out, in addition to making thumbnail- sketch storyboards, but slacked off recently. Something about vacation, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and being sick twice just sapped my motivation for a while. But now I really ought to get back to it. Since I need to get back to my story, I was wondering if anyone was interested in critiquing it so far? If anything needs to change, it's better to find out before I start drawing it on the good paper. I feel pretty good about last year - consequently, I feel good about this one. Really, how often can you look back on last year's resolutions and feel good about what you've done? I actually did lose weight last year, and I actually did finish up some commissioned projects, and I stuck to my 365 day Bible study plan. Pretty much this year's resolutions are to continue last year's good work, and get Volume 1, Issue 1 of Penance Copper done. I hope that I can be consistent about getting and finishing commissioned work, and that I can expand my Zazzle stores and get more income from them. Zazzle should be sending me my first check soon, so I'm really excited about that. I need to check up on that, actually...So, would anyone like to help me critique the script for the first six pages and/or scans of my Ugly Draft pages?

An update on Gabriel the Inscriber

Hey everyone,

I pray all is well. I wanted to give you a quick update on Gabriel the Inscriber from Lightweightz: The Anthology Part Two. I’ve just finished a revised draft of his script, and will pass it along to Przemyslaw in about a week so he can begin drawing it. I’m now working on revising Emi’s script, and will pass hers along to him in a week or so as well. Here’s the character concept to refresh your memory, along with a blurb to hint at what’s in store.

For Gabriel, knowledge isn’t only power…it’s dangerous. After remembering a once-forgotten secret, he finds himself on the run and on a mission. What does he know that’s so important, and what does it have to do with the other Lightweightz?

Happy holidays and if you haven’t yet, check out the Kickstarter which ends Jan. 9th!

Merry Christmas!

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and send out thanks for all the prayers and support. A few people have offered me a few short term projects, and I am very grateful. Due to my situation and the pressure of the holidays, I must prioritize these projects and do the paying jobs first. My search for full time employment continues, even more so that I have finished all my seasonal temp work. Thank you all for your support, scripture, and prayers.

Hey everyone,

I know our hearts were saddened this past weekend upon hearing about the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut and the stabbings in China. As we approach this holiday season and afterwards, please continue to keep the families of those affected, and their respective communities in your thoughts and/or prayers.

On the comic front, I have a couple of quick updates:

(1) The first week got off to a strong start, with 47% of the project being funded! With this being my first Kickstarter campaign I didn’t know what to expect, so the amount of love and support I’ve received out the gate has been nothing short of amazing. To every backer and person who helped spread the word, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

(2) My goal for this week is to keep up the momentum from last week, and I believe that by people continuing to get the word out, we can make that happen.

(3) Colored pages are coming in, and they look great! So expect to see some colored pages real soon.

(4) Last but not least, I’ve been fortunate enough to have two great friends and fellow CCAS members who are also in the comic world share their thoughts on what they liked about Lightweightz: The Anthology Part One, and why people should support Lightweightz: The Anthology Part Two.

Again, thanks for helping the movement get off to a strong start, and I look forward to us achieving the same this week.

With Gratitude,

Justin
