CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Hey there everyone! For those of you who read my book 'The New Sons of Thunder", I have posted the first story intended for book 2. It's called "The Crucible of the Crusades". If you haven't read my book, it won't make any sense. If you have read my book, it still won't make sense, but it may make a bit of nonsense. If you're desperate enough to want to read my book, a free PDF is available at: http://www.lulu.com/shop/gerry-lee/the-new-sons-of-thunder-volume-1/ebook/product-18765135.html

Though the writing is by me, the art is by the very talented Larry Blake, so enjoy the pictures if not the dialogue, ha ha!

Be well and be blessed!

  • Thank you Nathan and Paula, for reading my story and for the great encouragement:) It means a lot to me! May the Lord bless you both, today and always!

  • I thought it was a pretty good read :) Humor can be tough! But I thought most of it really was funny, and also very honest and thought-provoking.
  • Hey, Well if you were going for silly action/slapstick you nailed it !  :) It's very tongue and cheek. However, I don't think it's as superficial as you think. There is a lot there to think about, but perhaps I was looking for extra meaning.

How long did it take to Write and create? Do you have other TNSOT stories planned?

I can relate to you in some ways. My first story that I tried to write was called "The Keeper's Realm" I tried to fill it with christian teachings. But after 90+ pages written It got discouraging trying to pull it all together. Perhaps one day I will come back to it.

As far as advice goes, I am not experienced or proven so I don't know how much I can offer. I can tell you one of the most amazing books I have read on story telling is "Invisible Ink" by Brian McDonald and its only 5 dollars on the kindle store. The guy teaches workshops at Pixar, that was enough for me. And its a quick read, like 2 or 3 nights to finish it up for me.

  • Hi Nathan, thank you for reading my story, I appreciate it very much. The meaning behind the story is actually very superficial I'm afraid, you may be used to deeper meaning in Christian works. "The New Sons of Thunder" is actually in part a reaction to a more serious evangelical story I tried to write called 'The Edge of the Flock'.  The pressure and burdensome sense of responsibility for writing a serious Christian story caused me to pressure out, and I decided to write this silly, possibly stupid light hearted action/comedy 'The New Sons of Thunder'. My feeling was 'If people can laugh at the struggles of our well meaning but not very bright heroes, then maybe they will be able to laugh off some of the daily trials and tribulations of Christian life'. For this particular story, I wanted to touch on the following ideas:

    1) Yes, a lot of evil happens in the name of Christ. I'm tired of seeing Christians apologizing as if those evil deeds -are- Christianity. They are not. They are at odds with what our Lord taught, and we don't have to, and must not defend sin as part of our faith.

    2) The big three monotheistic religions are not the same faith. Judaism is not the same as Christianity is not the same as Islam. We all know it, but I actually grew up with a book in the house that taught me they were essentially one faith...

    3) And finally the overstated ending where Yuko explains that the Blood of Jesus washes away all sin, and that no one, not even pure maidens is without guilt...

    4) That's all:) It's a silly action/slapstick comedy, or is meant to be:)

Thanks for reading Nathan, I appreciate it:) Any advice you can give me to improve the stories would be most welcome!

    Have a blessed week!

    Gerry

  • Read the 33 pages. Very entertaining. There is a lot in there And I'm trying to piece together. Do you have any explanations behind the meaning of the work? I feel there is probably a lot of meaning Behind what is happening. I like how it shows that God can save all types of people, even those slightly clueless ;)
