Starships

Thought about making a Christian science fiction comic, so I tried my hand at 3d modeling today in Sketchup (because there's no way I'm redrawing a spaceship in each and every panel). I hope I did good LOL KTHX!

  • Nice spaceship designs! I look forward in reading your comic. :)
  • Ok i took the first few lessons in sketch up. Its seems easy enough. My plate is getting full though and it seem that though time consuming it proves to be a useful tool. Thanks.

  • Maffett: I have never used a 3d modeler before. I downloaded Sketchup yesterday morning. Read the tutorials on Sketchup in the program itself. And then afterwards, I made the spaceships. I literally did the above in less than one day.

The biggest problem, which might be noticeable, is that it doesn't really export very well to Photoshop. They have no options to export even a 2d scene in vectors, and the lines look crappy and dismal when saved. I have been exporting just the lineart and using the good old BLUR and THRESHOLD trick to give the lines a better quality.

Nevertheless, using this will be infinitesimally quicker than drawing it by hand myself :-).

  • Is sketch up easy to use? I am taking on a project that is calling for space ships and I feel you. I dont want to have to redraw them in perspective in each panel.
