Shame on Olsteen. The consequences of such false doctrine is staggering. Lost faith, shatter lives, and even lost lives.
...James Hetfield comes to mind. He is the lead singer of Metallica. His mother was a strict follower of Christian Science. She believed that the physical state was illusory, and that medicines and medical treatment were not necessary. She died fom cancer when Hetfield was young. His bitterness at God has shaped his life, his song writing, and ultimately the views of many of his fans. ...So, the false doctrine of Christian Science may have aided in the death of a young woman (her cancer may of may not have been treatable, I don't know), it has led to the bitter and angry alienation of her son from the very concept of God, and has potentially affected the views of untold thousands.
So sad. Life in Christ is really so very simple: I am a sinner. I need a Savior. He is God, and did it all. I am not, and can do nothing without Him.
the way Olsteen uses "speaking words of faith" translates into casting spells. As created beings in the image and likeness of our wonderful and powerful God we have some of His attributes. God created everything using words and speaking (willing) them into existence (creation). In turn we choose the direction of our lives (freewill) and mostly form that direction via words and or thoughts. The only power that the word has is over those who choose to be effected. For example, as parents we should bless our children's lives as they pass into adulthood (Bar/Bat Mitzvah or Barbarkah). But when we fail to do so we leave them with little spiritual covering and fail to live up to what God expected out of us a parents. Hence the need for blood redemption and salvation.
Words of faith (more accurately) is when a believer validates and agrees (hence the hebrew term 'amen') what the Word, Spirit or Persona of the Godhead deems viable. Same goes for fasting and praying. We do these things to get our soul inline with GOD Spirit and not the other way around.
But brothers David and Steve, we live in perilous and evil times. God told us that false prophets would come. It is great to see that I have two brothers with shinning armor, sharp swords, and tempered shields. I lock shields with you brothers to take the fight on to the enemy as we advance for the Kingdom of God.... THIS IS THE KINGDOM!!! oh well let me calm down im getting all hype like im some type of holy ghost spartan or something... wait I am a Holy Ghost Spartan!
Indeed! Yet so many people eat that idea up and don't realize how it doesn't make any sense.
No, I wouldn't say it's a "spiritual principle", I'd say it was... oh, what's the phrase I'm looking for?... Oh yeah!
