Character Sketches - The Swimming Hole

I've been working on character designs and practicing drawing different expressions. Here's a sketch dump of the current designs of the main characters of my story (thus far). They are all subject to change, but I feel like I'm starting to lock them in finally. Feedback always appreciated. If you have any ideas of what works, or does not work I'm all ears! :)

  • Hey Gerard, Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hopping that if I keep practicing, drawing these characters will be like second nature.

Brien, Thanks. I like your idea about adding some features to make the girls silhouettes different. I was thinking of adding pigtails to the younger girl, I wonder if that will mark enough difference. Do you have any other suggestions? And I don't have one character who is THE goof-ball, but I will consider it, I hope to get some humor across through all the characters though.

Hey Ralph, Thanks, I have seen Mia's stuff, it's AWESOME. I will definitely check her page out again though :)

If anyone is ever interested in reading the story so far LMK I'd love to get more feedback. Thanks!

  • Very good job.  I would suggest you check out Mia(Bazooka)Burgess's page on this site.  She has a firm grasp on facial expressions and you be able to gleam from her illustrations.  She is very gifted of the Lord.

  • Your ideas are great; small differences make each character recognizable. One idea I might suggest is to add a feature to one of the girls to make their silhouettes a bit more different; this will allow you to rotate them or have a pic with different lighting and they will still be quickly recognizable. Its great to see the range of ages!

Is one of these characters a "goof-ball?"  A goof has a great way of opening up plot and humor possibilities down the line.

  • I don't know how to put it other than 'these characters...are full of character'! Great face expressions, I love this page!
