I'm soooo looking forward to the Biola Media Conference in a few weeks. Mark Zoradi, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group was the latest addition to the event. He will kick off the conference on April 25th at the CBS Studio Center in Studio City , CA. Zoradi oversees the worldwide distribution and marketing of all Walt Disney Studios film properties including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Walt Disney Pictures, and Touchstone Pictures. I heard him speak previously about International Distribution. That talk was one of the best market analysis presentations I've ever seen. Prior to assuming his current role in July 2006, Zoradi led Walt Disney Studios' international distribution and marketing arm, formerly known as Buena Vista International, as president for 14 years. At Buena Vista International, Zoradi made a global impact and shattered industry records by earning more than $1 billion at the international box office for 12 consecutive years, generating $16.8 billion from 1995-2006. No other company has come close to this achievement. This year's workshops will tackle diverse aspects of how attendees can land themselves and their projects past the finish line, such as: Innovative Film Financing, Ambition vs. Ethics, Legal Aspects Of Deal-Making, How To Package and Sell To Hollywood, and Webisodes: Springboard To The Big Screen. To see the latest news announcement in full, click here. To register online at the special CCAS discount price, use the code "VSN" when registering at www.biolamedia.com. Please look me up on site at CBS if you come. I'll be there all day!

Put Yourself in This Position....

Just imagine the feeling....You have just experienced the biggest letdown of your life, because the man you have known, loved and followed as a mentor for the past three years, has just been arrested, beaten, publicly tortured and finally executed in the most humilating fashion possible in the city streets. You've spent the past two days in hiding for fear that the government might come after you next, because everybody knows you were one of "his followers." You only have the cold isolation of your hiding place to keep you company in your sorrow. All you have been able to do is pray and feel your life ripped apart in silent anguish, for fear of alerting anyone of your secret refuge. Then the Word comes....his body has been discovered missing from his place of initial burial. One of your friends, and fellow followers of this man, has even reported that he is alive and walking again among the living! You struggle with mixed feeling of joy and disbelief about this, 'cause after all dead is dead...is it not? I've never seen a dead man walking...except of course for that fellow you met months back. What was his name? Lazarus...yes Lazarus... and he was apparently raised from death by your mentor, though some of us had our doubts! Then it happens...after you and your friends have mustered enough courage to come out of hiding to meet, (even though it is in a secret location...so as not to attract attention), he's there! Seeing him in the flesh, you suddenly think of every person who you've lost to death and the dreams you've had about just being able to see and speak with them, one last time. You recall how joyful and peaceful this makes you feel, upon waking up. But now this feeling of Joy and Peace is multiplied 100 times, because this isn't a dream...he's really here in front of you. You have touched him, talked with him, seen the scars from the whipping and stabbing he suffered. You've even see him consuming food in front of you....so this can't just be some kind of spirit that you've heard about 100's of times in tales around the camp-fire.He starts to tell all of you, about where we will go after death and what it's like...because he's been there, he's seen its glory for himself! Then after a few weeks of his presence he tells you he is leaving you to join his father in that next place, but he will save a spot for you there and you feel momentarily sad because he will be departing again. But somehow still his presence is with you and within you and you vow to always remember how you felt on this day...the day you discovered that you had met, known and could talk to the living God. And this provides you with peace, joy, strength and security for the rest of your life, in both good times and bad.Just imagine the feeling!RJ Luedke

My Jesus Cartoon causes a protest?

http://rvrcheshire.blogspot.com/search?q=Jesus+CartoonIt is interesting how artwork (uncopyrighted) you post on a website ends up being copied and used on the internet. I have found a Jesus cartoon I drew on numerous blogs, including a Wierd Al video and a story of how it caused a protest (I'm assuming it is a joke). But this blog (above) raises the question of cartoon depictions of sacred persons or traditions. Most people are aware of the uproar and even deaths related to cartoon depictions of the prophet Mohammed. How about cartoon depictions of Jesus or God or other sacred Christian traditions? When does cartooning and caricature cross an ethical line when it comes to divine images or sacred Christian traditions?

A glimpse at things to come...

Brothers and sisters,I'm looking at taking things into a new direction with my character but I need help. I've not done much of anything but build up my drawings of Ischuros, his world, and what I'm pitting him against spiritually.... but I don't want it to end up like some of my previous ideas or comics from high school where it's only for a season. I want to make this, Salvation Samurai, a bigger part of my life... and I want him and his struggles, his battles to also move, grow, and get better as I do. So, I'm asking for help from any of you who has an encouraging word or words of wisdom. What should I do or How should I/ do you go about making your characters more epic or natural?Grace and Peace,D.A. Bosley

Seeking questions for a comics writing panel

Hi all. I've noted this over in the writer's discussion area. but thought I would post it around for added exposure here too:As the organizer for our local southern California CCAS meetings, I'm trying to start up a project that may bring more interaction between the various areas of CCAS -- the online social networks and forums, the local group volunteers, the Alpha-Omega APA-zine, etc. We're organizing a series of workshops at our monthly local CCAS meetings in southern California, which we hope to record and eventually make available online as a resource for the rest of CCAS. The subject of our first "panel discussion" format will focus on writing and storytelling, and will bring together several of our local members from a diverse range of storytelling backgrounds. So far, our list of panelists includes myself and Ralph Miley from Newcreationnow.com; Eric Jansen (self-publisher of God & Country Graphics, and also tract writer for Foursquare Missions Press); Josh Burns (a script doctor, and leader of a church drama ministry); and Buzz Dixon (animation screenwriter, and creator of the "Serenity" Christian manga series.)Here's where I'm hoping for some feedback from the rest of CCAS. What subjects would you like to see covered in a panel discussion of Christian writers? Submit your questions here, and I'll collect them for our panelists. We'll try to cover as many as we can, and we'll share the results here online later. (At the moment, we don't have the resources to do live streaming of the workshops for "live" participation here, but we'll do our best to post the recording of the panel in a timely manner.)God bless!
