Really, I'm no prude - but when it seemed every other page was a "love scene"...I was like...isn't this stuff supposed to be targeted to a younger audience? Obviously not. It seems comics have grown up, and are now stuck with the audience that grew up with them and can't figure out how to get back to what they used to be.
For two decades I've found the selection in comic shops to somewhere between sickening and depressing. The combination of online search engines, selective links and amateur galleries, has really made this past seven years a golden age of comics for me. Wow!
To say the least, it was mighty peculiar. I couldn't believe the amount of sex scenes that were peppered in all the books I looked at...and I was like...aren't these supposed to be traditional mainstream Marvel/DC books? Maybe they were a part of some other imprint of said brand...but I was like...ooooooooook...and then the colors, again my biggest peeve in comics right now, for the most part: brutal (a couple of stand outs but very few). And for some reason...even people who know how to draw...their stuff just looked soul-less. Empty. Vacant. Hollow.
I go to the library a lot now and get my comic fix. That way if I don't like it I don't feel I wasted money. Plus i could read titles I never would had due to my budget.
