Running an Experiment...

Ever since Sin City became popular, I've been intrigued by the noir style of comic books. I even rented a bunch of old noir style films just to get a feel for the genre. I also flipped through a few of the noir issues that Marvel has done recently. In researching the genre, I learned that most of the noir stories are riddled with sex, violence, drugs, alcoholism, and an overall depressing view on life. And of course, being me, the first thing I thought when I learned that was....Now how can I make it Christian?..........I have no clue if it's going to work out, but I do have an idea processing in my head....a way to incorporate enough of the elements that you get a noir feel, but not to the point that the material wouldn't be sellable to a faith-based audience.Something an old friend of mine once said about music.....it was God's creation, then Satan stole it and corrupted it. We need to try and take it back. I guess I kind of feel that way about comic books of ANY genre--superhero, noir, or otherwise. God created art and the minds that contribute to it. Then Satan got his hand in it and corrupted it to be something less than holy. Its our job as artists and writers who follow Christ to take it back and put it to its original use---glorifying God.So anyhow, I'll be working on that for a little while. I'm still spending most of my time and energy on the Outcasts Web Comic, because that is my first love. But later in the future I might have some character sketches and plot summaries to test out. Any thoughts on the matter? Can someone take something traditionally dark like the noir style and turn it into something God-glorifying? Comments or suggestions welcome.Keep Soaring,B

  • Brother I been trying to write a noir comic and creat one with some one for years. I grew up on noir books and film. I always like how it was always in some way either a tainted hero who was broke in some way or an every man; facing the moral evil within his city. As a christain man you could do so much today in that feild; from a murder mystery ( which is mostly used) to a protection racket. Not only that  adding the christain dynamic, you can show the charachter struggle in his flesh on such subjects God proves is wrong and the world belives is right; like turning your head if when a partner takes a bribe. The list of stories are endless prais God!
