Soshewa Furu: Legends of the Scroll

Yes, i know. I just wanted a name that sounded neat. Soshewa means nothing really. Furu supposedly is after fire, but I don't think so. So literally it kind of doesn't mean anything.

This painting was done because of my Black fire spin off of the the same name. Soshewa takes place around the Moriyama and Edo Period of Japan, but kind of a different dimensional. The characters are of the same name but they aren't rock stars. In a way you could called these descendants but still kind of not related. Saito plays the main role then Yuuto (or was my thinking the other way around).

A intro paragraph of part of the story Ive written:

"Once, long ago, in the land of the rising the sun on the island of Honshu, where Fuji stood tall, the emperors, shoguns, tribes and ninjas live in harmony in their four regions, ruled in their own ways. Most of the action took place on the main isles, but all were equal. The Umitako Tribe ruled The North, which they pierced with their barbarian ways into formation’s of the Earth. The West formed the Hiroshi ninja clan, whose martial arts swayed into the flow of Water. The Harumi Family ruled The East, whose powers swifted to the beauty of wind and light. And finally, the Yuudai shogunate and emperors ruled the South, controlling the ways of fire and darkness. "

This is hideaki and Naokoto under the familly Yuudai. You can see, that hideaki is a shogun and Nakoto is a Fedual Lord.

It might be a cover, who knows? XD

I pretty much enjoyed painting it as I remembered. I kind of hated trying to cover the whole painting of that gradient orange color you see there. It took days to do the washes for the background. I kind of hated how acrylic so far isn't runny enough, so even for the black lines, I had to layer washes over it. Personally I think its just a problem with me painting.

But even with these, I just went and go with the flow and try to beat my own fears down. And pretty much, the concept of it was pretty simple, because its mimics prints of Edo, but reflects the warmth of Naokoto and Hideaki.

Painted with acrylics on canvas

Edited with photoshop for color correction and warpness.

References? I studied alot of Japanese art and Samurai stances, mainly for deciding on color.
