We as followers, believers and servants of Christ show maturity when we can expose ourselves what someone (we will say Past. Parsley) teaches and can examine it in light of what Scripture says. I have listened to tel-evangelists before and they have caused me to dig deeper into my word to seek better meaning. They also have sparked my prayer life. I learned to pray that God guide them (with love) in using their gift for the Glory of His Kingdom and not for the profit of their ministry. I have noticed that mostly people who are "poorer" seem to be drawn to a "name it and claim it"-creflo dollar, hurting people to "Holy healing" - Benny Hin, those who are a "pentacostal pain in the @#$%" to a motivation ministry - Joyce Myers, I could go on but I think you get my point. It hurts me that these preachers are blessed with great skill, talent, and gifts but (appear) to be motivated by power, self promotion, money and profit.
Yeah, even I noticed that. But most televangelists have very unique personalities that makes them stand out and appeal to different types of people.
I have watch (observed) Rod over the years and from the first time I saw him didn't really trust him. We must understand that most tel-evangelist are VERY charismatic (in personality and in doctrine). They have something about them that is appealing and convincing to their respective audiences. It is unfortunate that they use that "gift" of charisma as a ploy to exploit. But the dark flip side of charisma is manipulation...
I'll admit, initially I was a bit fretful of this piece. I agree with your message, but since there might be CCAS members in the prosperity movement, I was a bit worried. For all that I do not personally agree with the prosperity movement, I don't believe that in general it denies the essentials of Christian doctrine. I believe many, if not most of the people in those movements are sincere, and love Jesus and are saved. But reading your blog, you have strongly and excellently supported your message with Mr. Parsley's own words and documentation about his teachings, and I know that one thing thing the Bible really warns against are the ravenous wolves that come to fleece the flock... I know we're not supposed to argue denominational differences here, but I believe your work is a different sort of thing, a warning against un-Christian teachings and dangers. Well done!
