Modern Christians 5.33

Page 33 done. And it's the last page! I was thinking to have a different ending, but then thought it wasn't necessary and had no real point to the overall story. I hope I ended it well. I was thinking to look for publishers after finishing this story, but feel I need to do just 1 more!

Hope you enjoyed it. I'll be taking a short break from Modern Christians for a while and working on other art and working on the script of the next story.

  • Thanks Brien. I do want Modern Christians to be mainly character based, where the each main character learns and grows through their experiences and that they might be similar to real people

I have Blankets and it's been an influence on Modern Christians mainly by storyteling, even it's art style is borrowed, since i like Craig Thompson's artstyle. Though I wish he did more research on Christanity and not expect his pastor to have all the anwsers before becoming what appears to be agnostic now.

I can't wait to get his new graphic novel Habibi next week for even more storytelling and art ideas. :)

In the next Modern Christians theres gonna be lots of issues and reflects what real Christians think and do today.

  • Thinking about how to resolve your current story arc. Generally stories are issue-based or character-based.  I would consider "Modern christians" to be character-based; even though to strip raises a lot of issues, really the focus is on how the character is handling those issues. So when we reach the final conclusion page of the arc, the issues may not be resolved but the character should reach some sort of resolution on how he will handle life successfully dispite his confusion.

A great example is the autobiographical graphic novel 'Blankets' by Craig Thompson(ISBN#1-891830-43-0). The author brings up a lot of theological issues during the book, none of which are resolved. The "resolution" of each chapter is a personal milestone that the author passes in his own faith, and the book ends with Craig settling on a paradigm "Blankets" for how he's going to deal with life.

Love the issues you bring up in your strip, it is definitely worthwhile perfecting it.

  • Somewhat. Though it was a bit difficult to think of a great ending. And keep in mind David and his friends here are still young and don't know all there is to Christanity yet.
  • Is this comic page meant to be a resolution?
