Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus' twelve core disciples, initially believed Jesus was the promised Messiah. He was responsible for managing the group's finances, and would often help himself to the money he was entrusted with.
Tragically, he misunderstood who Jesus really was, and what Jesus had come to do, and his ensuing disillusionment led him to betray Jesus to His enemies. Realizing that he had betrayed a truly innocent man, Judas, unable to bear the guilt, committed suicide.
