    Very interesting points, Graham, thanks. Yeah I've heard the argument that it was definitely a fish, not a whale, and since this was a picture for the Bible Society, I was actually going for historical accuracy, believe it or not, so hence I drew a fish not a whale, even though I obviously took massive artistic license with the design of the fish. I figure, hey, it's God we're talking about here, he could have been breeding this thing at the bottom of the ocean for 100 years, just to prepare it for this moment.

    High quality work. The effect of the coloring is very nice, and I like the interpretation of the 'big fish' in Jonah. i did a comic translation of Jonah, and wrestled with the idea of using a whale or a fish. I opted for the whale because of it's beauty and it's sense of community, but my wife, who is the Hebrew scholar said that it would have been better to make it a fish.

    From a theological point of view, the fact that the fish in your picture has teeth in it, reminds me of the way the instruments of salvation in the Bible can take threatening forms (i.e. the cross).
