He was a great-hearted ol'guy and family guardian for thirteen years. I held him as he was put down; the last part to cease moving was his tail.

Yup; dogs are one of the few animals that make their living by being a friend, and they're good at it.

It seems that the older dogs are the most painful to lose. Our terrier was 17 years old when we had to put her down. They take a little piece of our heart when they go.

Losing a faithful pet and friend is heart breaking. I hope God gives us back our pets in heaven.
