  • HI Sean,

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm Scott A. Shuford, one of the new Board members. I wanted to stop in and say thanks for being involved with CCAS! If you have any input or would like to be involved with anything in particular, please let me and Eric Jansen (Membership Coordinator for CCAS) know by contacting us both through the site. We'll be making several announcements in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. To see a bit more about me, check out my profile here on the site. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Consider the words of C.S. Lewis:
"If there lurks in most modern minds the notion that to desire our own good and to earnestly hope for the enjoyment of it is a bad thing, I suggest that this notion has crept in from Kant and the Stoics and is no part of the Christian faith. Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling around with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased."
  • I can't believe the Big Two let him go! First, Marvel ticks him off by canceling X-MEN:THE HIDDEN YEARS (four issues shy of being officially complete), then, finally, DC sort of tricks him by bringing him back to ACTION COMICS for--what they neglected to tell him--a temporary run! I would have LOVED to have seen him do SHAZAM and BATMAN! Well, at least I FINALLY get to see the further adventures of Gary Seven! And then, of course, they collect (almost) everything he does and he's a perennial bestseller in the "regular" bookstores. I guess the "regular" folk aren't "wise" enough to think he's passé. (Uh oh--you got me on a John Byrne rant!)
  • Wow! Sorry it took so long to get back to you! I guess I've been very neglectful of my page! So, yes, (a million years later) I WAS a fan of John Byrne's WONDER WOMAN--I'm a fan of EVERYTHING he does! However, he did WW when I wandered away from comics for a couple of years. I've picked up a few of those issues in the (alas) 3-for-a-dollar bin, but I would love to find the complete run collected in trade paperbacks. Unfortunately, they've only done a couple of thin ones that collect issues I've already got! NEXT MEN was great, but I would have liked to have seen more of DANGER UNLIMITED. Not to mention things he proposed that were never okayed, like his takes on SHAZAM/CAPTAIN MARVEL and an all-ages BATMAN book. Are you reading his STAR TREK stuff?
  • Hey Sean long-time no talk, looks like your staying busy! Hope all is well.
