Area(s) of Interest or Expertise:
I am a high school English teacher, and occasionally I get to teach Creative Writing courses.
I got more passionate about writing when I won the “LAND Writing Contest” early in college.
I also have a Master’s degree which includes a study of comics and graphic novels.
I love good writing, but I also have a high appreciation for artwork, so I find that comics and graphic novels are the perfect marriage of the two different genres.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
It all started long ago, in a galaxy far, far, away…
Just kidding!
So, to begin, I was raised in a non-denominational type of church that used modern Bible translations, had Calvinistic influences in its teachings, and had a rock style worship service. I prayed the salvation prayer and got baptized by my father when I was around 7-years old. However, I began wavering in faith as a teenager for a season, but eventually grew into adulthood with stronger beliefs.
Be that as it may, I then began reading atheistic literature out of curiosity in my middle years and feeling unsatisfied with church. I then became convinced as an atheist for a couple of years. Never the less, after seeing the same falsehoods and hypocrisy in the atheistic community as I did in mainstream Christianity, I felt like there had to be something better.
Next, I decided to pick up a Bible and give it a fair chance. I did not know it was a King James, I simply liked its cool looking crown of thorns on the cover! I started by reading the New Testament and became convicted by the words of Jesus and moved by the powerful verses and chapters in every book. I then discovered Kent Hovind was a lover of the KJB as well as I began reading Chick Tracts. The tract “Holy Joe”, in particular, really struck a chord with me. I know there is a lot of controversy around whether or not you can lose your salvation and faith by works, so I’ll just say that it was around this time that “I gave my heart back to Christ”.
To make a long story short, it was reading the King James Bible under the guidance of the Holy Spirit that has made the most lasting impact on my spiritual life.
Things are still not perfect, and I’ve since had my ups and downs with faith, but the KJV-Only Movement has really helped me to keep up the good fight and stay rooted in my faith in Christ.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
My dream job would be to write and do the artwork for my own original gospel tracts in a similar vein as Jack Chick or David W. Daniels. I’d also like to put up the good fight for the KJV Bible!
