I suppose this is the companion piece to Steve Crespo's fun Discussion topic on pet peeves, but it was actually a chance remark by DL that got me thinking about some of the really odd things I like. I really enjoy sunrises and sunsets but so do a lot of people.  However I get odd looks when I say I like…

*Children’s books. I go to the children’s section of the Library even when I don’t have a child along. The magic and love is just so pure, and the art is so creative and uninhibited!

*Washing dishes. I love kitchens and warm soapy water and having something to do with my hands while I talk.

*The smell of horse sweat and horse poop. To me the smell always means ‘Good times, there’s a horse close by.”

*Rereading good fiction. I can reread a good story over and over for decades, and still think, “Oooh! That is soooooo good!”

*Drawing character-based comics.  I have heard that far, far away there are conventions full of people that draw story-line comics…but I have face to face talked to two(60seconds each) in my life.  In central California, from south San Francisco to North LA, I can name two practicing cartoonists, three if I include Oakland.   That’s why I really cling to CCAS.

  • @ Alika- Volleyball...you can find a lot of women over 6'.  My daugther has a young lady on the club team she plays on who is 6'5".

  • DL that's not an unusual like that's an incredible/awesome quote and nottah bad movie either. Now Sparling's like some of those could get you in trouble. Good thing you prefaced the horse-sweat/manure with washing/cleaning something, so you're into being clean. but wha...?

@Ralph how are those unusual, maybe 1 & 7, but the others are normally standard faire.^^

Mine would be women over 6' and listening to masamixes while i work.

  • Aw, I might as well add a few things

    1. I love whenever the Lakers beat the Celtics.

    2. I love a good, hearty laugh that leaves you catching your breath.

    3. I love reading nonfiction, epecially authors that use Scripture to validate a point.

    4. There is nothing like a foot massage after a long day at work.

    5. I love the times when I find myself stumbling into God's will and seeing Him work.

    6. I love anything chocolate, esecially Rocky Road Ice Cream.

    7. I love walking the floor of comic book conventions and looking for obscure stuff.

  • Random thought.....you know one weird thing done with pee.  The romans used to use pee to keep their whites clean.

  • Chris,

I don't know, man... that's a hard offer to pass up.

A quick Bing search pulled up all sorts of uses for horse poop. Here's a few-

    1. Compost and/or fertilizer for the garden. (Great for tomatoes, rhubarb, potatoes, roses and other flowers.)
    2. Filling holes or depressions in your back yard, or field.
    3. Dehydrated, it can be used as a fire starter for your fireplace.
    4. Can be used to make bricks.
    5. Can be used as insulation. (Back in the day, people would pile it against the walls of their homes, so as it decomposed it generated heat, thereby keeping the house warm.)
    6. Can make you a country singer. (Hank Williams once said, "You got to have smelt a lot of mule manure before you can sing like a hillbilly." ...So, you know...)
    7. Great for leaving in a flaming paper bag on your neighbor's front doorstep.

Okay... so I came up with #7. I admit it.

And wouldn't you know, there is a book on horse poop? (http://www.littlebookofhorsepoop.com/)

    Brien,

Just make sure those road apples are nice and sun-ripened!

  • I like (or liked ~ before she got put off the air) listening to Dr. Laura while I draw. Its fun to hear her preach, teach and nag. Plus hearing the stuff people get involved with makes me thankful and realize that my life is not hat bad.
