Just about lost a favorite mare to colic last night. Often I have trouble focusing on eternity but on the front porch of death I find I can think about little else.

Added information and some insight:
1) I've often seen at the top of Latest Activity the comment spot, "What are you up to?" The CCAS website always carries a mix of spiritual topics as well as artistic (love it) so when my mare, Katie, treated us to a near death experience, I thought I would publish some quick thoughts on the CCAS site. Unfortunately my thoughts were more than the 140 letter limit so...I went with Discussions.
2) In many areas of the world, in both country and even suburbia, horses are kept as pets...so I guess it shouldn't have surprised me that another comicker had a similar experience(thank you for your thoughtful words, Steve; especially the last line).
3) Colic is a blockage of the intestinal tract that results in horrific pain and often death. It makes me wonder how God could make an animal that is so beautiful and fragil...and yet so enduring; yet I guess humans are even more so. (I'm seeing a creative theme here, waddya think?)
4) I have heard that the final lessons that pets teach us is about death, and with large animals all the lessons of life and death are written large. I have never walked away from such a death dry-eyed or without an awareness of how thin the barrier is between this world and the next.
5) Happily Katie is out on pasture, not traumatized in the least. It is humans, with our devine spark and sense of time, that spend our time thinking about eternity and the source of Love.

Ok...now, the fact that it's two mares, with the terms colic and death commented on in the same place, this is a moment for pause. I may be reading way too much into this...but I can't shake that there's something being told to us here - for the following reasons:
1. The comments seem completely random and off the beaten path for "comics"...(not a bad thing, just peculiar)
2. The fact that there are two people here who have commented on the exact same thing.
Dare I ask what the horses names were? And were either of them a "Dark Horse"?

THIS IS MERELY SPECULATION ON MY PART - BUT, the seeming "coincidence" of 2 horses, with the same symptoms, (one killed, and one not) and the phrasing of Steve and Brien's comments, and the obscure passing fact that they just happen to be on the same comics board definitely made me sit up and take notice.
Though there are positives in the "Horse Symbolism", the fact that the comments mention the death of one horse, and the near death of the other (man I would love to know their names), and the comments reflect on eternity, I'm left to mull what this potentially means, and how it might relate to us as comickers.
Would anyone have any additional spiritual insight, a confirmation or added word to consider regarding this? Again, this might be chalked up to mere coincidence - but at least contemplate what it might mean.
A good friend of mine just had to put his down 2 nights ago due to colic.
I often think that on this side of eternity we endure life and death- as we do pleasure and pain, and day and night- so that as beautiful as creation is, we should not grow too satisfied with it. ...And to keep in mind what the Lord has for those who love Him.
