No, no, no, Steve! Not too subtle. Even though that detail may not be picked up consciously (I didn't see it) -- I believe it's still felt. When you revealed this, my reaction was, "_that's_ what that was!" Brilliant.
There is a tremendous sensitivity to your strips.

One of the things I love about this strip is that so often enough interpretive wiggle-room is left for the reader to read his own meaning into it.
Sometimes three people will see a strip, and I'll get three different interpretations. That's kinda cool.
For myself, Buzz, you first guess was what was on my mind. So often I am distracted from the reading of Scripture by the most ridiculous things, like say, a Columbo re-run I've seen at least 6 times before. (I purposely left the cross face down in the last panel to reinforce that idea. ...Maybe that was too subtle.)

The artwork is beautiful as usual. Loving the colors. Especially #2. But I'm loving both. Those clouds are really tight!
Buzz-- I think it's both assumptions for #1. But leaning more towards your second assumption. Especially with the last post that Steve put out about the butterfly that he posted not too long ago.
#1 means he's an entomologist.
#2 is skydiving w/o a parachute.
