CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

  • If you're looking specifically for independent publishers, superhero genre, and Christian themes/characters/content, I've been involved in a couple projects like that. Over at New Creation Now, we have several comics in that category:

    * Clint Johnson's "Faithwalker", a minister-turned-superhero fighting sin in the inner city.

    * "Ragged Capes", an anthology series exploring spiritual themes using the superhero archetypes of the villian, the superhero, the anti-hero, etc.

    * "New Crew", a tongue-in-cheek superhero comedy I wrote about a grandstanding team of publicity-seeking heroes and their rivalry with a lone Christian heroine toiling in the shadows.

Faithwalker and Ragged Capes are available on the NCN website as free webcomics. There are also still a few copies of the New Crew's original black-and-white print run available, although an updated colorized version may be coming soon as a webcomic as well. Let us know what you think, we're always looking for feedback.

Some wont agree but I think Angels make the perfect Super Hero, think about it..they battle against their own, they have to follow a protocol, they've been created but no one knows their origin..they cannot be summoned but they show up when you're in trouble..

  • One of the members of the X-men (I get the X-groups confused) is a bonafide Bible-believing Christian.

Recently, also, in Justice Society, the young girl (Hurricane?) was sharing some Bible insights with Kingdom Come Superman, and admitted to having memorized the Bible, in an Alex Ross tale.
Alex Ross will sometimes allude to the structure of his universe as having an objective morality (as Alan Moore will point to the structure of HIS fictional universes as NOT having an objective morality); and will seem to support the idea of God being out there beyond the fictional world.

Superman in the miniseries A Superman for All Seasons has Clark Kent attending a Methodist church, with no irony suggested.

  • dude I would love to go to comic-con but I live in ohio and that trip would cost me a couple of grand to go but I play to go in a few years
    • umm... What comic-con are we talking about? I was talking locally... I live here in Crapville (no, that's not a city) Michigan, and I went to my first comic-con in 07'. It only took me, maybe 20 minutes to get there. Check your local comic store and ask the shopkeeper at the counter if there's an upcoming con in your area. (It's the only way I know to check... lol)
