  • Gideon Media Arts Conference and Film Festival

  • Aug 5, 2011 to Aug 11, 2011
  • Location: Lifeway Conference Center
  • Description:

To spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through all types of media with an emphasis on radio, theater, church drama, music graphic novels, television and film.

The Gideon was started to give Christians who are interested in the media arts a place to encourage their talents, a venue to meet, learn, network and get advice from experts in the industry, and the opportunity to develop working and personal relationships that extend long after the Gideon is over.

Our faculty are prayerfully considered and wonderfully selected by God. They are comprised of Christian producers, directors, writers, graphic novelists, musicians, actors, DJ's, performers, speakers and teachers and are chosen for the Gideon, not only for their accomplishments and expertise, but for their servant's heart. We are blessed and humbled that these incredibly talented individuals are designing classes and workshops to stretch your mind and help you discover the path that God has placed in front of you.

Matter & Spirit: Art and Belief in a Digital Age

Digital information and the hard and soft technologies that support it are transforming contemporary life. The 2011 Christians in the Visual Arts biennial conference will explore the ways in which these technologies enhance and challenge our understanding of art and belief. Following an arc built around the major acts of the biblical narrative, our keynote sessions explore three major themes:

Why Matter Matters: Technology and the Created Order
The Problem of Matter: Technology and the History of Art-Making
The Future of Matter: Technology, Art-Making, and Hope

To dig more deeply into these themes, two plenary panels and six conference tracks will consider the character of material reality, its relationship to the spiritual, and the particular implications within a variety of discipli
