CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Why creative commons

We all have projects we want to realize, and we all want others to help us realize them, for free...

Is there still hope for crowdsourcing in the comics industry?

The obstacles are many:
- Finding a project that appeals to a large pool of artists
- Dividing up the workload so that individual sacrifice is minimal
- Standardizing the results so that the diversity of styles doesn't work against us
- Protecting the resulting work without the excessive restraints of copyright law

Is there hope?
Given the recent success of crowdsourcing on the web (wikipediastarwarsuncut) and the stunning artwork being produced under creative commons licensing by groups like The Blender Foundation, or the Morevna Project, I think the world of christian crowdsourcing will soon emerge on the international scene - after all, who has more talented individuals with a common vision and the determination to bring that vision to the world at large?

Are we going to allow groups like The Animation Workshop to continue to dedicate artistic talent to vehemently anti-christian themes unrivaled by equally stunning pro-gospel productions?

  • If we don't make it happen no one will!

What can motivate us to sacrifice a part of our time?
*Knowing that our work will be seen by others - a public outlet
*Knowing that we are part of something bigger - a common vision
*Knowing that the individual load isn't all that heavy - sharing
*Knowing that even if we can't finish the project someone else can pick up where we left off.

    Let's stay posted : )

  • I've been inspired over the years especially by some awesome Christian fiction novels (like frank e. peretti and Brock and Bodie Thoene Authors).  I'd love to see some graphic novels done and judging from most of the 'worldly' graphic novel storylines I think they would be appreciated and make an impact.  The problem is it would be a huge undertaking and need a group of talented ppl.  personally I'm struggling to complete smaller projects on my own.

If something like this was functioning.  If people were used to operating in this way then everything would be possible.  I think you are right, it's right there waiting to happen.  It would be great to see like-minded, like-inspired minds come together and urge one another on into finishing projects.
