CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

This week's progress

So I'm trying to learn inking.  Really trying hard to learn inking.  Went back over the previous pages of this project and inked them.  I'm a novice at inking, what can I say.

Comment on 1 thing you like and 1 thing you don't like.

(any tips on better inking techniques I'm open to 'em).

  • Make your gutters wider. You can see with the blue line on the paper the suggestion size/space for the gutters. Remember, printed comic book pages are smaller than the size in which we draw a comic book page.

There's way too much going on in the last page. I wouldn't use so many panels on one page.

You should, also, vary your line work of your inking. You might try using a brush with different pen/nib sizes. Things that are closer in the foreground are going to have a heavier line.

This panel from ARCHIE & FRIENDS was inked with a Winsor Newton Series 7 Brush #2 and a Hunt 102 nib. I used the brush on parts of the figures, while the nib was used to ink the background...
