Parables of Peanuts...

Was reading this at Borders this evening. The book proposes that art and entertainment are different. With entertainment, you only have fun, with art, you learn by being provoked to think in a good way. Further, the book held to art-parable as the effective method of ministry. That binding a strong man could happen by perplexing his conscious in an art-parable like Jesus did with the parables He spoke. It also spoke of the most effective art-parable method was something that obtained the greatest audience while perplexing the strong and being genuinely entertaining.

  • Interesting. I have been struggling with the idea of creating "amusement" vs. "art". The break-down of "amuse" means "no thought". "Muse" = thought, with the prefix "a" making it a negative. As believers, we are not called to "amuse", but be thoughtful at all times. My problem: I really enjoy amusement, as in getting lost in entertainment for entertainment's sake. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit is faithful to remind me when I go astray.

    Good thoughts here.
