God, Please Stop Giving Me Ideas!

This tuesday I showed my teacher a dozen or so ideas that I came up with this Spring. He liked every one of them too, but it didn't help me overcome my six week homework lag because I for some reason have the hardest time keeping that spark interesting to me. I would show you these ideas just because I have nothing else to show of my self seeing as my positive attitude depends on it...but since I wasted a whole week of not drawing and instead packing and moving, I have to spend the whole weekend considering if I should drop the class or push something to my animation purist teacher that he won'e cringe at, even if it's not finished...which is what he's expecting anyway since I keep moaning to him that I don't want to do the final and I'll finish it and....it doesn't bother him one bit....well making him suffer wouldn't help me much now that I think about it...I always feel way worse once after I destroy something out of anger/depression....Ok back to moping or waiting for my teachers email....

  • Oh well, sometimes that's the best thing to do. I know when I feel enormous relief afterwards, that it was a good decision.
  • I already had to drop it...it is impossible to catch up right now....
  • You should be noting down all your ideas in your notebook/idea-book to be revisited later (invaluable during those dry periods). Don't drop the class unless you really want to.

Sometimes you have to suck it up and turn in less than perfect work - most the time, realistically. Do what you can and learn from it. Procrastination is a creativity killer.

Good luck - how'd it go?
  • i know how you feel man. i have that all the time. and the next day, there is no denying that it was god, because the ideas were so interesting and cool, i could never take credit. but i agree with the others, write it all down. also, one at a time. pray for focus, and passion. focus is one of the biggest problems i have, because i think so creatively. good luck with all!!
  • Dude,
Don't ask God to stop giving you ideas write them down in a note/sketch book and keep going. This is a reality of life in the field you are in. You'll need those ideas as you go forward. But for now, pick one and focus and Git-R-Done. You can do it. You are getting a chance to study that a lot of us wish we had. It's kind of like dating. The beginning is always fresh and new and exciting, but finishing it is like marriage, it's a lot of hard work but it's very rewarding. You didn't get into to this to start a wholde bunch of things and not finish them. You don't become an animator to draw pictures you go into it to make films. It's the film that shows what you've been able to do. Stick with it.
    God bless,
    Dave
