Another reason I want to die...

On http://www.cartoonbrew.com/ several posts are being dedicated to the passing of the Last of Disney's First and foremost animation crew dubbed "The Nine Old Men," Ollie Johnston. He was my favorite as his style was so loose and incomprehendable and he had such a casual time in making his magic! Several art and movie blogs across the globe are paying tribute to his passing, but not one of my relatives, nor anyone in my city would even know his name. Ollie Jonston was to me as Tupac or James Brown is to them, that's the reality of it all. I could never geek out about these animators even in a comic book store, because nobody cares anymore. Animation as fallen to the wayside as much as Reinassance art has. I'm the only one left who goes into extacsy over seeing the charm and beauty when a film is done in the full "Illusion of Life" sense, where all the principles have been mastered, and life is created all over again, a greater creation and a greater reality to me than the one in Genesis, imho. No one, even in the Christian artist circles has ever come to admire this persons talent, despite he being infinately superior to all of us. Why did God do this to me? Why did he take Ollie and all my joy for what little I'm able to do away?

  • in a sence, this is contrary to what you said about not wanting to emulate other cartoonists ...
asside : I froghat that Glen Keane was with Disney : surely his father's proud of him !
& Mijo, why want to die over anything ?
  • Ollie Johnston was a blessing to us, and a pacesetter for every artist who desires to see their work take a life of their own!
You really can't top what everyone has said here. Here's a thought: Before Elijah left this earth, his disciple Elisha requested that he receive a double portion of his anointing. God granted his request, and everything that Elijah did in the power of God, Elisha did double! The best way you can honor the life of Ollie Johnston is to take up the mantle and hone your God given creativity! Ollie had a God-given gift of creativity that he honed with dilligence, and you were inspired by the fruit of his life. I wonder what God has in store for you? Take the time to grieve. And then go and worship God with your art.
  • I can simpathise,if thats how you spell it.I can imagine how i'd feel if one of my favorite artists died.Be happy,if he was saved,he's with Jesus, and he's happier than he ever could've been down here.
  • Keep courage, he's gone but as Kyle Goodman says: there's no better way to pay homage to an artist than to continue in their footsteps. He's gone but not the Lord, Master Jesus still with you and that's the most important things in the world above everything
  • ... wow, I think they said it all man. Don't give up because your hero left, you'll see him someday.
  • Keep courage, he's gone but as :Kyle Goodman says :there's no better way to pay homage to an artist than to continue in their footsteps. And I agree with that
  • As a child watching Peter Pan at my aunts house, my life was greatly influenced. I didnt realize it at the time but the simple elegance, mass and movement of his dessignes would continue to affect my own work to this day. He will be missed.
  • If I have a garden full of beautiful flowers, I might want to pick one of the most beautiful ones and place it in a crystal vase to display it in my home. Doesn't God have that same choice when He looks out upon His flowers? We must remember, God did not take Mr. Johnson from us, He just welcomed Him home.

Jesus said, "In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

I'd like to think that Ollie's eternal mansion is outfitted with the best animation studio he could ever imagine.

  • I agree with Randy, there, God didn't take anything away from you, only the fact that seeing as Ollie wasn't animating anymore and he was getting up there in age, the Lord felt it was time to call him home, but yet, Ollie's work is all over the place in the ol' cartoons, just give respect ( which I know you will) to Ollie's memory and legacy by watching the ol' cartoons and movies in which his work was displayed and do the best to persavere in your own work. He led a long and prosperous life, don't fret, you can grieve for him, but remember, we only grieve for ourselves. So, don't blame God or anything like that, things that happen in this world, like Ollie's passing, are a fact of life and death, but he did his work and now, you in turn should do yours ^.^ God Bless and you are in our prayers.
  • No offense man, but get over it. The man died of old age at 95 years old. Did you expect him to live forever? It this really a reason to "want to die" and do you really think God "did this to you"? Seriously your reaction is both immature and self centered. If you liked the guy so much, honor his life instead of complaining about your own.
