PALADIN:The Guide to Christian Comics and Games

So i was on youtube watching anime music videos (y'know i love them dang-o anime music videos) when off to the side i saw a link to a video explaining how to make a zine, which for those not in the know, is a little one-sheet book with eight pages. Wow, i've heard of these but i never expected them to be so easy to make. Perfect for anybody that want to put out any kind of literature or anything about their favorite hobbies and what-not. And i've always wanted to see the christian equivalent of WIZARD magazine. Now i can just make my own. How cool is that? Sure its smaller than a CHICK tract and only 8 pages, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere, right. I'm really liking this new age of people making their own comics and movies and whatever. To actually, in some small way, be a part of whatever industry your interested in. So i'm gonna give this Zine thing a try.

  • Hey Bro, go here, www.speednchrome.com, and you can see some of my work.
  • Hey Lance. It does help thanks. I'm gonna start talking to Printers and see what they have to say. But i doubt i'm gonna be using the Publishers software. I just can't get it to do what i need.........................plus it was just a trial version i got with my Computer Applications textbook..........................which i won't have anymore in a couple of weeks....................................which i guess could, theoretically, be a problem...........................:)
  • Hey Anthoney, thats one of the things I was trying to explain. The two programs you mentioned do not give the printer the ability to output seperations in order to print the job. You will need to use a program that they use. The first thing you should do is ask around to see if anyone knows of a printer, or just call them from the phone book and ask to see what programs they accept files from. You might luck out and they will accept Publisher files, then you'll be in good shape. If they have the time to answer your questions, take advantage of it and find out how they like the files prepared. They usually have to be done very specifically in order to work properly. Hope this helps a little bro, I am here if you need me.
  • Howard> Count on it.:)

Lance> I was actually just planning on doing it on my computer. But if i can't do that, i'll just use a regular printer. I don't think my town even has a kinko's. So i have to bring the files to a printer?
  • Hey Anthony,
Once you read the 1st two issues, and you feel like writing a story for them, let me know and we'll talk.
    Howard
  • Okay Anthony, step away from the Microsoft software. Just kidding but I really do hate it. Okay well, you cant use word for anything, and publisher isnt much better. It all depends on where you plan on printing it. Are you thinking Kinko's or a regular printer? You will need to decide that before designing so you know how to set up the files. Most if not all regular printers will not take publisher files because you cannot output seperations from that program, thats what my printer told me anyway. I use InDesign for page layout. I am serious about helping out so we should talk more. I know publishing pretty stinkin well, talk to ya soon.
  • Thanks Lance. It would be cool to have friends contribute articles every now and then. And there is something you can help me with. How do i print this thing? I won't belabor the point too much here since i also plan to post this question in the forum, but i've spent about 2 hours a day for the past 3 days exploring Microsoft word and MS publisher and still can't do it.
  • I would be willing to help to help with that idea. I have interviewed people before. Let me know if you could use me for anything. I have publishing and article writing experience.
  • LOL Thats fine with me. As long as you've got answers, i've got questions.:) But what about writers? And be careful what questions you give me, cuz i might be doing an issue on The Overcomers.:)
  • Wow, good luck, y'know God's with you, I know you asked Howard about what to ask, go for things like:

"To the budding artist, what advice would you give?"

"In your experience, what have you found to be the hardest part of being a (self) published comic artist?"

"Do you think that a Degree or higher education matters in this industry?"

"What are some Do's and Don'ts that apply when offering a script or sequentials to a comic book company?"

That is for just artists themselves, if you interview companies, take these for example:

"What do you as a company, find most appealing ( catches your eye) in comic book submissions?"

"What do you find that most amature comic artists do wrong when submitting a book and how should the right way be done?"

"Is it better to solicit a comic book idea or script in the mail or at Cons?"

"What advice would you give to the comic book artists, who want to submit their work?"

Things like that would be helpful to the readers ^^ and those of us who don't know what the Co's are after ^^. Hope that helps and I don't mean to answer for Howard, because I'm not, but I figured I would chip in, hope that's ok with you :D Have fun and God Bless!
