What I do in teaching the Bible to adults of varying English ability is by providing a hand-drawn story every Sunday - photocopied for all. Then the story is redrawn larger on a whiteboard. It appears dry erase markers are my medium of choice. I only started providing handouts since 2010. It made people sad to see some of the more elaborate drawings being erased at the end of class. One Korean couple visited once, took a picture of the board after class, and left to return to their country. After enough complaints, I started providing handouts. One Ukrainian woman a few weeks ago proudly told me that "I have all pictures. If you no find one. I have!" It's so humbling that some days I want to hide under the bed - but my wife chose a bed frame that doesn't have an under.

    Thank you, Brien. With a multicultural audience we have to go panel by panel and explain each person and action. At the end of the story, I ask "who was in the story? How does the story start? What happens next? How does it end?" Then some may have questions of certain English words. Then I ask "Who would like to tell the story?" And then a student tells the story back in there own English ability. Then I ask "what are the truths of the story?" Each story is tied to a NT truth about Jesus. It's a very fast hour.

    Takes me back to "Good News Club" that I went to as a kid. Those who volunteered to conduct these after school clubs in their homes were issued a box of flannel figures to stick to a flannel covered board that they used as they told us bible stories. Also reminds me of "Chalk-talk teachers that would come to our church for an evening service.  As they talked they would work on a colorful landscape of some sort in front of the church. Great stuff!
