  • Hey Youmin! I guess I'm not the only one with a strange computer keyboard. ;) Yeah, I think the manhwa artists know what they're talking about. :) It definitely does help to get tips and hints from more experienced artists. So, Miss Victoria is a mystery to us both, haha. :P Oh well, I'm sure it'll come to you sooner or later. :) As far as I know, most people in my country are back to work/school, too. So I guess the holidays are over for the both of us, for now. So, what exactly is Information Design? God bless! :)

  • Hello, Youmin! Happy New Year! I tried to respond earlier, but my computer keyboard wasn't working properly. I've loved drawing for as long as I can remember, (I used to draw on walls, too :P) but I've only wanted to make comics for a year or so. I've looked from anatomy books, to Youtube tutorials, to anything else that could possibly improve my artwork. :P No one has ever told me about the copying trick before. Thanks for the tip! :) I love your character designs, but I especially love Miss Victoria. I'm very curious about her back-story. :) Anyways, I hope that all is well with you and yours, and that your artistic skill continues to improve. :) Thanks again for your help!

  • Hi Youmin!

    No problem!

I used to stay in Rooihuiskraal, but these days I'm in Al Khobar! (And oh yes - for all the non-SAfricans - the English meaning of Rooihuiskraal is something like Red House Corral?)

And unfortunately the job outside SA is about as uncreative as it comes - software administration!

Blessings and all God's best for you that side!

  • Hey, no problem, and thank you! I really like your illustrations (I'm a sucker for great pencils and work with fine lines) and how you depict social issues. I was especially drawn to the "Blood Diamond" picture on your Deviant Art page.

Also, I'm interested in seeing where you go with Lady Victoria. I haven't read very many Victorian-era or steampunk comics, but so far I've yet to come across a prominent black character. If I may ask, what was your inspiration for her?

I pray God will continue to work through you for his glory and bless you in all your work!

  • Sounds good to me, sister! :)

  • I just posted my first take on a middle eastern character. Let me know what you think.

  • I agree with you whole heartily sister. I am working on drawing middle eastern people and asian people now. I found both races have unique eyes. With Asian eye lids being very challenging, and middle easterns have the areas around the total eye. I love how our God created races different. I find it like him posting a challenge to me (and other artists) saying "Here is what I did... see if you can recreate it in your own style." In doing so, I find my self in prayer and conversation with God telling him how cool an artist he is. The it turns into worship then leads to me praising him for blessing me with the time and talent to draw. I guess only people who can have an appreciation for that type of worship is another artist.

  • I found the best way to draw people of color is to "people watch". Though I have a long way to go myself. I am blessed to have friends of different races, shapes and colors who I can interact with an "people watch" without appearing like some type of creepy stalker. Most of them know I like to draw and when they catch me staring they understand that I am studying them as a photo reference. I have a good friend who is an indian woman and one of the most unique looking people I have met. She said I could use her as a character, Ihpe to post the character designs soon. On the flip side, the bad part is that there are very few tutorials out there on how to draw different races. I believe its because "race" is still a very sensitive topic, and no one wants to be stereotyped.

  • Thank you again, Youmin, for your help uploading a profile pic.  Have a great day!

  • Hello, Miss Park! Welcome to CCAS! Your artwork is beautiful! :)
