I'm a newbie artist, so I won't have too much information on that, but I can pray for you if you need it. However, if you're looking for recommendations on good, appropriate manga (Japanese comics) to read, I may have some advice. I also do mixed media, so if you're interested in using collage for backgrounds, I may be able to help you, though I am just learning myself. I also love to hear prayer requests. I'm currently working on a sci-fi/mystery/romance comic with a manga-ish look, so any advice is greatly appreciated.
My Testimony: (We encourage members to share briefly about how their faith in Christ has impacted their lives.)
I was raised in a committed Christian family. I first began to get into anime at the end of eighth grade. Faith has been a slow process because of my Asperger's Syndrome (a form of Autism), but I'm getting there. I believe faith is a journey. From the time you first believe to the time you go to be with our Father in Heaven.
Dream Job: (If you could have your dream job in the comics industry, what would it be?)
I'd love to be a Christian manga artist.

Happy birthday, K. G. Adams!!! <3
Thank you for the warm welcome :)
Hi there!
1: I enjoy lots of different genres, but I think action-adventure is what I gravitate toward, and I'm a sucker for Sci-fi.
2. My favorite of Takahashi work is probably Ranma 1/2. I love the humor and there's a lot of martial arts in it that Takahashi does a great job with.
3. The Sequential Art degree program does include a math class as a general education requirement (most degree programs at most schools do). SCAD gives freshmen the opportunity to take an exam to test out of having to take math. I was able to pass that test and take a science class instead, but most students don't pass that exam.
As far as college stuff in-general goes, I think the most important thing to look at is cost and your career goals. I didn't really understand the impact of student loans until after graduation, and between my personal loans and the loans my parents took out it is a crippling amount of debt that neither I nor my parents could afford. If you are thinking of going to art school, do so if you and your family can afford it and/or if you are 100% committed to making a living from your art (which takes a lot of hard work).
I don't mean to totally discourage you - going to SCAD was a great experience, and I got to meet really amazing professors and study abroad - but there is still a part of me that would have decided not to go if I had really understood the weight of the debt I would graduate with. I wouldn't want others to go the same path without thinking realistically about the consequences.
There are less expensive options, such as going to a cheaper state-school with a good art program, and using online learning resources. It'd take a little more self-motivation, but Imaginism Studios and Society of Visual Storytelling have tons of courses by comics artists and animators.
4. I do art digitally for the most part. I use Clip Studio Paint (also known as Manga Studio), which is a program made specifically with comics artists in mind. I highly recommend it. I used to use Photoshop and Illustrator, but I've since switched to using CSP exclusively. Seems like Medibang Paint has a comparable set of tools, tho. I also use a Wacom Tablet to draw. Someday I'll have a Cintiq :'D
Thanks for the welcome, and I hope your arts learning goes well!
