Animation in my future

Much as it would be nice to be able to send Ralph Miley to the comics conventions with fresh Galen material, I feel it would be a waste of time, because comics doesn't enjoy the readership that it once did. Kids who a generation ago would read superhero comics ravenously are now leaving that medium for the computer-generated virtual realities of the Internet. Where they are going, I for one need to be.

To put it bluntly, animation is where I need to be. To set me off down that road, I've purchased a newer computer, a Dell Optiplex GX280, downloaded into it an open-source 3D animation software named Blender, and even as I write I'm learning as quickly as I can how to model 3D figures with an eye toward eventually being able to animate them.

My goal is to be able to animate short "commercials" for the two big screens at the front of the sanctuary of Christian Assembly in northeastern Columbus, OH by mid summer. It's hard, as I have to fight off my inner "Ed Gruberman", who wants to learn all the nifty moves up front and thinks that wearing the "pajamas" is all he needs to be ready for them.

I ask for your prayers and support in this. It's difficult to become a student again at my age.

Galen? A superhero?

Kurt Kolka invited me to send in information about Galen the Saintly (mouse angel) to this guy who's writing a book called Armour of God: the Encyclopedic History of Abrahamic Superheroes. It's a complete repository of information on superheroes who are openly Christian, Jewish, or Islamic. It's kinda kooky how these superhero freaks seem to accept Galen as a superhero. Galen doesn't accept himself as one. He's got a disdain for the practice of pummelling and destroying things. As long as I've had him in Cardinal Adventures, he's been more of an evangelist and teacher than a superhero. I always made a point to have him teach an object lesson.Says he, "Sometimes I think the only difference between superheroes and bullies is whose side they're on."I've been sketching the little guy as of late, making minor modifications to his body to make him more mouselike. I'm experimenting with making him roughly 3½ times as tall as his head, giving him a more rotund body, shorter legs, and longer feet. As soon as I can find some time, I'm going to color up one of my sketches and put it up here to see what you think of it.

What I've been doing these years...

I've been turning my back on you in shame and disgust with myself, treating you like some kind of skip tracer that has found me and has come to collect on a very long standing debt. When I think of the CCAS these days, I think of the unanswered question "When can I expect to sell copies of Galen the Saintly #2, #3, #4 yada, yada, yada, all the way up to #10 at the next San Diego Comic Con? The grandparents I've been talking to have been asking about this wonderful character that you have seemingly murdered in cold blood before his great potential had a chance to be realized."

Funny how the Devil can at one point jump all over me about money debts that I haven't paid and then almost in the same breath nag me about comic book debts that I haven't paid.

Well, I guess it can't hurt to look at your forums and try to find out what you guys are up to.

Just what are you guys up to?
