Notice that these two silohuettes are exactly the same, but with some curves placed over them, they become directional. One goes forward, and one goes back.

My advice to this is that everyone has this problem at first. What you need to do is follow a formula that keeps your attention on each step as you go. You need to begin with the chest, then, hips, then, legs, then arms and then the head. At each stage you need to erase right away so that you don't get confused.
I've always had trouble with compulsively alternating back and forth with which of the overlapping shapes is on top...usually when it's the classic transparent squares trick where the outlines aren't filled in but it creeps in all over the place of other aspects to drawing...
