CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Why I recommend joining the "Alpha Omega" apa-zine

Hello all! For years I was a member of the "Alpha Omega" apa-zine. Essentially it's a magazine consisting of material from 30 or so members, and distributed primarily only to the contributors. It is printed every 2 months and is open to Comic book fans of all levels of skill and gifting, and is a Christian publication.

Speaking as an aspiring amateur writer and storyboarder, I can't recommend the magazine highly enough to fledgling Comic creators and those new to the CCAS.

A major part of the point of AO is that everyone writes reactions, comments, and critiques to everyone elses material. While you may think waiting 2 months for critique is too long, this system has huge advantages. For one thing, you are guaranteed Christian critique. I've never gotten 30 reactions to anything I posted on the internet, so this is a gold mine to me! Secondly, it encourages us to read other's material, things we might ordinarily not choose to read, and to learn to minister to others in the community through participation.

I have made many good friends through AO. In fact, my partner for my ongoing story 'The New Sons of Thunder' Larry Blake I met through AO and it's members. It is a terrific place to get to know CCAS members, since everyone is encouraged to communicate every issue.

Yes, the internet offers instant gratification, but there participation and fellowship are always optional. AO depends on and encourages interaction, collaboration and friendships. And so, I cannot recommend Alpha Omega highly enough!

There is still time to join up for the January issue! Contact Eric Jansen here via the PM system to find out more! There are 5 positions open right now, a great opportunity!

God bless you all!

  • Hi Sven,

No, everyone prints out their contribution to the latest issue then mails it or emails the files to Eric Jansen, who prints it and assembles the pages into a paper and ink fanzine. An online Christian comic magazine is a wonderful idea though! That would be an awesome CCAS challenge for 2012, see if the CCAS community can sustain a bimonthly online magazine presence on the internet for a year...

    Have a blessed weekend Sven!
