CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Surprise! I won the art contest!

Hello fellow cartoonists! I entered an listeners choice art contest for a Christian radio show and came in as 2nd runner up!

I was so surprised I just about fell off the chair!

The thing is no one notified me anything about it. I entered it the end of March and just found out the beginning of Aug. I had gone to the web site for about a month after but could not even find out how to vote so I didn't' get to vote... there were I think over a couple hundred entries a lot of them were really good I didn't think I stood a chance.

In fact I might of suggested loudly that it probably was rigged or a popularity contest where one could have their facebook network and family vote in for theirs.

Opps had to eat them words after I found out by accident I was one of the runner ups and no one knew I entered.

I do cartoons for the disabled and have been feeling very disconnected lately for almost a year and maybe God was leading me else where but where I wondered?

The contest winning just encouraged me and made me smile a humongous grin! The reason I entered is they were to have a book of the best 100 of the contest and I wanted just to get in the book...I did get in the book and more! It's a real classy nice book too. But I don't think it will go anywhere especially since I didn't even know I won.

I had been dis-ed by the Christian world a few years ago also so I never tried to do anything there till this contest. I had done a Disabled womens magazine that went nowhere. I had done a few outside things that fizzled out also. I love doing personal cartoons but that also is very had to get into.

My cartoons and paintings are a ministry that I had for a few years I never charge for any work or shipping most of those that I do art for are on Medicare or could never afford any kind of art.

My husband is to retire early next year and we have to move to a much cheaper area and I would like to supplement our income since I am disabled it narrows what I could do to the home or computer.

I have no art background and never went to art school. How does one go about doing that? Most important how do we find out what God wants?

Any experiences any ideas out there? Any suggestions stories or life examples are more than appreciated!

Thanks

  • Wow Buzz that is a great idea! I looked a bit on the Cafe Press site...a tad pricey but I want look into others.

Some one had asked if they could take a few of my cartoons and own them so they could use Cafe Press or something like that. It was a few years ago and I said no. A few folks had already taken a couple of my cartoons without my permission and used them on their disabled web site. I would not of minded if they would of asked. Even when I emailed the web site I got no response. So when that other person wanted to do the Cafe Press I was very hesitant.

But If I could find the right place I certainly would consider it! Do you know of any good sites that have been proven reliable and honest? It just might be the right timing for something such as that.

  • Thanks guys! As most of us here it is a pleasure to see others like our work. I don't see it as work even though sometimes I have a hard time doing them without any training but it is so enjoyable for the most part.

MT I think I am looking for ideas on how to promote my cartoons for possible income for as I said I do them as a ministry now but with our downsizing when hubby retires I want to be able to supplement our income he has lost half his pension so it will be lean years for us.

I am on disability so it will have to be under a certain amount that I am permitted to make.

I haven't got a clue what to charge how to advertise nothing0002041D.gif

  • Good going Terry! What info about art do you want to know specifically?
