Seriously, scripter Jerry Siegel was the co-creator of Superman (along with artist Joel Shuster). Though their conception of Superman was originally as a Lex Luthor-type villain (after all, the term 'superman' was popularized by Friedrich Nietschze as a prototype of the Nazi ideal), they eventually made him over into a Depression era Messianic hero-type---interesting that Siegel's sympathies would extend to his character's rescue of Christians---but remember, the Jews were also under Roman occupation in the first century.

Add Super Lion Taming to his growing list of superpowers.
