So what's your favorite eraser? The stalwart vinyl brick? The quirky kneaded eraser? The mysterious art gum? (Well, it's mysterious to me. I could never figure out what it's for.)
Personally, my favorite is either the white vinyl brick eraser or the erasers on the mechanical pencils I use. (which I think are the same material.)

I was shocked to discover recently that white vinyl brick erasers are not all equal. (well, surprised at least) My trusty vinyl eraser is getting small and thus the packaging is long gone. My replacement ended up being rock hard. That is, if rocks were somewhat flexible and erased graphite. My replacement replacement is super soft, almost to the point of being too soft to erase accurately.
Lesson: When you find an art supply you like, write down the make and model!
I like the Staedtler white eraser. It doesn't leave any pink smudges or film on my inked pages.
the regular old red soft eraser.
I also love the white vinyl brick eraser. It has always worked the best for me. I too have no idea what the art gum eraser is for.
