This story, written and drawn by Wallace Wood, appeared in the last issue of E.C. Comics' FRONTLINE COMBAT. It's tragic that Wood died of suicide in 1981 after years of alcoholism, several wives, and mounting health problems. From this story - as well as another I shared by him from 1966 - it appears that Wood had some understanding of the Gospel. See for your self!

Jack Chick's "Holy Joe" tract first saw print in 1964, and has a few similar themes to Wood's E.C. story, but I doubt Chick was aware of it:
