Back in the early 2000s author Mike Nappa and artist Dennis Jensen (who drew for DC and Marvel in the late '70s - late '90s) put together an award winning, full color comics section in Focus on the Family's CLUBHOUSE magazine (for 9 - 11 year olds) called "Johnny Grav and the Visioneer." It is a Christian super-hero strip with a very pleasant Silver/Bronze Age sensibility that is now collected in trade paperback form. This is probably the best Christian super-hero comic I've ever encountered, and would make a nice gift for a pre-teen interested in this sort of thing.

No previews (beyond the covers), unfortunately, but perhaps you can poke around the 'net and find a few sample pages. Dennis also did a very nice two pager for New Creation's PROVERBS & PARABLES comics anthology in the late '90s.
Kind regards in Christ Jesus,
Alec
