CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

In Search Of Volunteer Talent

A few years ago, I read the book "The Purpose Driven Life" only to wake up one morning months later with a mission the Lord had bestowed unto me. I don't understand why me, because I don't possess any talent in drawing comics whatsoever. My mission is to commence a ministry that uses comics to reach out to children in an effort to evangelize them some day. Let me explain. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." (Matthew 19:14) And, that is true for all young children of all races and born in non-Christian evironments when they are young enough to not know the difference. We also know that Jesus will return, and that He has promised, but we don't know when that is. What happens to these children when they grow up? This ministry may not evangelize these children immediately, but it will have planted the seed and some day if it is God's will, only then they will find the Lord and accept Jesus as their Savior. What is the plan? Children and even adults of all ages want to have a hero in their lives. Using comics and the story of Jesus in an epic comic format will be their first chance to learn of Jesus. They may not uderstand it now, but the Lord knows how he will use this opportunity in the future. My job is to put the pieces together. I don't know how, as I don't possess any drawing talent, but I do know I am to find the way to fullfill His command. I will eventually find the funds to print and distribute the comics, but step one is to find the talent to create the comics. I come to CCAS to seek advice and assistance to whomever has the calling to contribute to the ministry. Thanks for reading this blog, and may God bless you in all that you do and may He continue using your talent for His purpose. In Christ,Willie

  • Daniel, your help is extremely welcome. Sorry I missed your posting. I am working on the scripting of the story and will reach out to you as soon as I put some of the materials together. Bear with me as this is all new to me, and I am praying for God's guidance, and so I see that he is putting fellow Christians like you in touch with me. Thanks for your generosity. God bless

hey willie! that sounds really cool! i'm wondering- do you have a vision for what sort of Christian comcis you want to do? will you be writing them? all of that can help in acquiring talent. i would love to help out in anyway which you would like help, if you'll have me! i wish you the best!
  • Very good point, Brian. That is my fear as well. Perhaps I should stick to Plan A. Ephesians 4:7 says: "But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it." I will do my part, and if it is God's will that the message reaches the children, then so be it. I know God is putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Thanks for the advice.

The modern day Jesus idea is pretty cool. The issue is something Jesus said himself in parable. Remember when He spoke of the rich man that died and asked for a drop of water? And then afterwards said, let me please go visit my sons so they won't end up here. And Moses replied if they didn't believe the prophets, even a dead man isn't going to make them believe. This makes a very good case that Jesus as written in the Gospels is all there is to faith... any modernization won't change whether people will believe more, and may even detract from your main ministry purpose.

    I'm praying for ya Willie.

Thanks for your posting, Paul. Originally I was thinking about using the gospels to formulate the comic, however, lately I had an expanded idea to depict a modern day Jesus figure in modern day scenes that parallell the exact ones in the gospels to attract children in areas where Christianity is shunned. My wife and I are trying to write the script and we need someone's God-given talents to help portray the story. What are your thoughts?

We are on the same page Willie. When ever the Lord permits me, I use Christian Manga Art in teaching children the gospel. I do have some free time and if there is anyway I can help, I would like to offer what God has given me. Let me know what you have in mind, and I'll send you a sample. Will keep you in my prayers.

  • Cool page! I truly believe that language is key in getting the message across, but illustrated in comics even stronger as it gives the visual effect that nothing else can. I guess since I am fond of languages (I speak six languages myself), I do believe strongly in communicating on a widespread basis. Keep your comments coming. The Lord is working His will, I can feel it.
  • I would admit it would be a lot of fun to make a Jesus from the Gospel of Mark. First time he walks into a church, he casts out a demon from one of the church members! Prolly a gossip. Still, exciting stuff.
  • Funny... the very page I just typed up was > http://www.howdoiplaymywhistle.com/irish-whistle-2/rest/

Thanks for posting your comments, Brian. I assure you, not a day goes by without prayer for guidance in realizing this ministry. In fact, interestingly enough, I believe that is how I eventually got to CCAS. He is awesome in His ways! I agree there are others on CCAS using their talent for this purpose. What I am to do is precisely getting the comics translated in as many foreign languages as possible and distribute through traditional methods as well as using today's technology depending on the most appropriate method. I will continue to pray and be on the lookout for others to join this ministry and I thank you for offering your domain for this purpose. God bless.

There is something correct in this, I agree. Comics and specifically animation, are very viable teaching forms of media. They've been used as ministry tools for 30 years now. I believe there are people doing this already presently on CCAS. I wish you added prayer time on this endeavor you're looking at. I have a domain, in fact, that I own, and I have never put something on it yet. If there were a group to come together with good communication and agreement, and it had japanese translations, I would seriously consider using it for this purpose.
