CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS
Sorry I haven't posted much. (let's just say I will celebrate on the day when homework dies, lol). Anyway,as many of you know, I've been coming up with the explaination for Brianna's powers. I was thinking about how transforming affects her mind. I know she will retain human intelligence and her memories of who she is and what has happened to her. But I thought it might be interesting if some of the animal's instincts appeared while she was transformed (which would make some sense scientifically). I do want to explore what makes us hunan, but I don't want to put anything too anti-biblical in my story (hence why I gave her powers a scientific explanation and showed her faith in God as something important to her).Something else I've been thinking about is how should those around Brianna how know her secret should react to her. I'm working on scenes with her family and friends finding out. Her mother was ultimately not pleased upon her diagnosis, but I don't know how her uncle (and the pastor of her church) should react. What do you think?

  • In that case he would still love her, but probably not be totally on board with her transformations. He might want her to hide her powers and not tell anyone about them. He could be telling her that because of both of his motivations: he loves her and doesn't want people to see her as a freak/monster/problem and also because he is more comfortable if she doesn't use her powers.

He could be a really good antagonist for Brianna. He is a person who stands in the way of her goals, even though he does so out of love.

  • Thank you so much. I actually had the part with the senses in mind (which actually causes her to go into shock upon changing back). Also, Brianna's uncle is like a father figure to her. He's very kind but also very conservative.

You should definitely include some animal senses in her transformation. That will make her character more interesting if she could hear as well as a bat, smell as well as a dog, or see as well as an eagle.

For other character's reactions, you need to first realize what kind of characters they are. Don't think about how they would react, think about how they see the world. Is her uncle a kind and compassionate pastor or is he a hellfire-and-brimstone pastor? The way he sees the world will answer the question of how he sees Brianna.

How to portray Brianna's shapeshifting powers/ how to portray those who know her secret
