how can I promote my cartoons?!

I have been drawing single-panel gag cartoons based on Bible stories and verses for a year and a half now.  I have had some success with promoting them, and I have been getting a bit of exposure online, but it feels like it's going to be a long, uphill battle to get to the point where this is anything more than a hobby.

Right now I am sending promotion packets (usually via email) to Christian newspapers and the major syndicates.  I have also been setting up links with other websites.  I have had some success with websites, but very little success with newspapers, and no success with syndicates.

I am thinking I will buy a list of Christian newpapers from somewhere (not sure where to get that just yet).  I am also thinking of joining the Evangelical Press Association, to get more exposure with Christian newspapers.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I am guessing there is no substitute or teacher like perseverance, but all this rejection is getting me down a bit.

  • If you don't mind the name, you could use Deviant Art.  They have regular contests from different companies, and winners have some recognition.  Comic artists such as the one who made Hollow Fields are very active in their own place in that website.  On the other hand... it's easy to get lost in the crowd there.('christian' has >124,000 , 'Jesus' has >203,000 , and 'bible' has >61,000 when searched)

In this website, there are requests for artwork now and then.  If you're the confident kind, you could offer to help whenever these requests come up.

  • When I did make a comic that was relatively popular, at least so much so that it was linked by other comics, I was doing a lot of fanart. Maybe do a lot of fanart.

    This is my suggestion.
