CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

Guys- fter hearing a lot about the challenges in getting comic and graphic novel projects, I HAD to share this info with you:

Kickstarter may be able to help you get the money to make it happen.

Kickstarter is a start up web platform that matches aspiring artists, designers, writers, filmmakers and other creatives with patrons willing to finance their projects.

How Kickstarter Works:
A project creator sets a fundraising goal, deadline, and an optional set of rewards for backers. The rewards for the project’s backers can be anything, but preferably related to the project. If the goal’s reached by the deadline, then backers are charged via Amazon Payments and they get their cool rewards. If the goal’s not reached, nobody’s charged, so it’s all or nothing.

According to the Kickstarter website, projects involving donations only, personal charity or general business expenses are not good fits.

Creators must be diligent in managing their project. The tone that the folks at Kickstarter set is much like that of social networks, meaning that they encourage a good project creator to do the following:

• Create and upload a pitch video
• Spread the word through their network, audience, friends, and family
• Keep backers in the loop with frequent Project Updates
• Engage with the community that develops around their project
• Fulfill rewards in a timely manner

So, Who Can Participate?
Kickstarter is in Beta and the ability to start projects is limited, but they say that if there's a project you can't wait to start, sign up or login and then drop them a line. They say that they’d love to hear about it.

  • yeah i know a guy who did one of these for a mini comic he put together and i think it worked pretty well for him.

i'd love to be a part of it- but for me it comes down to managing something else to do.

somebody should do one for our sort of product and see how it goes. maybe for a anthology book or something.

if someone will manage it- i'll give them some free pages to use.
  • I've been waiting for someone to mention this. Glad I'm not the only one who's heard about it.

Go give it a looksee. May be worth your while.
