CHRISTIAN COMIC ARTS SOCIETY :: A NETWORK OF CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FOR COMICS FANS, PROS, AND AMATEURS

First snag leads to good possibilities

Well, my project, "King of Kings: The Chronicles of Jesus" has hit a major roadblock. As it turns out, legally I can't publish it without having a licensing agreement from those who "own" the NIV translation. Since I'm an indepedent publisher with no distributor, it's doubtful they will grant me such permission. Apparently, I CAN use the KJV, but since I'm gearing this for kids, that seems sort of counter productive.

But the good news, is that I'm developing a relationship with a christian publisher who is considering hiring me to help with art projects at his company. If it all goes through, I stand to make TWICE my current salary at my current day job.

Prayers for guidance through all these things is greatly appreciated.

Yours in Christ,

Brian

  • As always- you guys are so incredibly uplifting and fortifying! Thanks for the great and INFORMATIVE responses!
  • Amen Brother. Stay the course and do not lose faith in your mission.

I experienced the same type of thing with trying to create and publish EW over the last 8 years, (financial collapse, death of both of my brothers, death of my wife's parents 24 hours apart, discovery of an attack on my daughter, and constant criticism from varied sources). You hit the nail on the head. If what you're doing/creating is something powerful for the Kingdom, Satan will do anything/everything he can to try to stop it, or at least try to divert you down a different path. Take heart that you're a warrior for the Lord, that Satan is concerned about! YEAH...count it all as joy.
  • William Tyndale went through such dire trials in order to get the original Greek New Testament translated into English. He had to leave his homeland, never to return, lost all of his work and had to restart, and was shipwrecked. Sounds a bit like the apostle Paul, eh? But what revival spread in the land once Tyndale's translations started getting out there, especially after Henry VIII finally relented and permitted the Coverdale Bible (essentially the same as Tyndale's) to be published in English and read in every church in the realm. Neither the Vatican nor the King of England could stop the plan of God.

One thing that should bring great comfort to you: we stand our ground, not because of strong self-will, but because we have the assurance through continued prayer that we have entered into the work that God in eternity past has preordained us to do. In God's timing, everything will come together. That's where patience endurance comes in, and what He has for us is worth the wait.
  • Thanks, Alec. It seems interesting to me that the further I get with my project, the greater the obstacles have become. Just to share this with you_ I've been working on this book for two years. Since then: My faith was tested, my original artwork was partially destroyed TWICE, the digital files I had in storage were all lost (then thankfully 90% recovered) My marriage has been tested, two major surgeries, of course the copyright issue and now this with the accident. I've been told that when you serve the Lord you are in Satan's radar. Given my past, I know that I used to always give up on things or become indefinately distracted. Yet I can now defiantly proclaim I have a Savior who will see me through it all. I will stand my ground. I WILL see this done. Amen.
  • Wow, what a photo! I'm glad everyone's all right. You know you're on the right track when the attacks come in a very direct, forceful fashion, but God will turn everything for the good for those who love Him (Romans 8: 28) in the end. We'll continue to stand with you in prayer.

    Blessings in Christ Jesus,

    Alec
  • Amazing!!! Thanks for sharing this story of God's incredible, protective hand. And He has a sense of humor, doesn't He?? The pic is fabulous! What a way to declare He was present.

God bless you, Brian! Have already prayed for you all and will do so again.

  • Pray for my wife, Chrysti and step-son, Tyler. While on their way to South Carolina, an agressive driver caused her to roll her SUV 6 times across I-85. They are banged up and shaken, but through the grace of God, they're okay. If you get a second, check out the photo. I know this is an odd forum to share this, but since I feel a kindred with you guys, I felt compelled to. Not to be voyeuristic, but I think when you see the it, you'll see the significance. God is good....

  • that's exactly what I experienced...when having to cross reference between versions, a deeper understanding of the text was the result. You are blessed, my friend!

  • Guys, I'm truly blessed by the amount of worthwhile sugestions and advice everyone has chosen to share. I really get the feeling that I'm among peers and fellow christians who are willing to help me see this project succeed. It means a great deal to me to have this forum. I think I've come to the conclusion that I'll be paraphrasing and adapting it as I go. I'll just have to take more time to make sure i'm deviating from the message. SO far I've been trying to cross reference versions to make sure that the dialogue and overall passages remain constant and true to the original texts. In all honesty, the extra work is somehow been gratifying as I get to do more studying as I go. Again, my deepest thanks to everyone. You guys are wonderful. I've decided to give a "credit" in the book to the CCAS!

The 1599 Geneva Bible is the direct predecessor to the King James Version of 1611, and was the Bible read by most of the English-speaking reformers of the 16th century. It is in public domain, as is William Tyndale's 1625 translation of the New Testament from the original Greek (it is also the first and, in my estimation, best translation of the N.T. into English). It wouldn't be too hard to modernize his spellings and use that version. Tyndale was anointed of God for this very task, and he was martyred for it in 1536.
